Oakland/Las Vegas A's (9x World Series Champions)

Oakland A's agree to purchase land near Las Vegas Strip

The Oakland Athletics have signed a binding agreement to purchase land near the Las Vegas Strip, where they intend to construct a major league ballpark, team president Dave Kaval told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday.

The agreement is for a 49-acre site owned by Red Rock Resorts, the parent company of Station Casinos.

Kaval told the Review-Journal a $1.5 billion, 35,000-seat stadium with a partially retractable roof would be built on the site, adding that other developments, including restaurants and an amphitheater, are also being discussed.

The A's will work with Nevada and Clark County on a public-private partnership to fund the stadium. Kaval said the A's hope to break ground by next year and would hope to be moved to their new home by 2027.

"For a while we were on parallel paths [with Oakland] but we have turned our attention to Las Vegas to get a deal here for the A's and find a long-term home," Kaval told the Review-Journal. "Oakland has been a great home for us for over 50 years, but we really need this 20-year saga completed and we feel there's a path here in Southern Nevada to do that."

The A's had been looking for a new home for years to replace the outdated and rundown Oakland Coliseum, where the team has played since arriving from Kansas City for the 1968 season. They had sought to build a stadium in Fremont and San Jose before shifting their attention to the Oakland waterfront. The A's lease at the Coliseum expires after the 2024 season.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred expressed his support for the purchase agreement and for the A's shifting their efforts toward a move to Las Vegas.

Vegas already has a AAA baseball team. Why would they need another one?

A's, Nevada legislative leadership reach tentative agreement for new ballpark

Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo announced Wednesday a tentative agreement between his office, legislative leaders in the state and the Oakland Athletics for a stadium funding plan after weeks of negotiations over how much public assistance the state will contribute to a $1.5 billion ballpark in Las Vegas, according to a joint statement.

Heard on radio that their run differential is like -184 and the next closest is the Royals at -73 or something crazy like that.
Numbers are about a week old but you get the point.

Generally speaking, they are on pace to lose the most games in modern history, give up almost double the amount of runs that previously worst team ever did and have the highest team ERA in history (and consequently surrender the most runs).

I’m not being hyperbolic, this is quite possibly the worst team in baseball history. It most certainly is tracking to be the worst in the 162 game era (50 some odd years now iirc).

It’s worth paying attention to. You’ll likely never see anything like it again.

I just went over to baseballreference to take in just how awful they are and I legit do not recognize 90% of the names on their 40-man roster.

Ok, we need to start keeping track of this shit. It's once in a lifetime.

As of the close of business today:
-lost 11 in a row
-record is 10-45 (.182) that is on pace for 29 wins. Twenty fucking Nine. (29-133)
-run diff is -199 (-3.6 per game or on pace for an unheard of -586 for the year)
-team ERA is MLB worst 6.81 (next worst is 5.26)
-runs allowed is MLB worst 378. Colorado is second worst at 289.

Holy fucking hell

Just burning it all down to ensure Oakland just says "good riddance", maybe?

You can't even say it's a AAA team. It's more like a High-A team...maybe.

Fangraphs has their farm system rated #23 in MLB. Highest rated guy (singular) is a 55FV 1B at AAA.

Next two best are a couple of 50FV pitchers that are already up (and being pounded one would assume).

It's not like they are tanking the MLB team on purpose and have a bunch of talent just waiting to be called up once they are in Vegas. They are talentless from stem to stern.

Woof.

Admittedly, I don't follow baseball as closely as I did 5 years ago, but I legitimately do not recognize 90% of their 40 man roster. It looks like a bunch of AAA flunkees and MLB castoffs.
Im guessing the money will start flowing once they hit the high desert. Opposing teams fans will flock to Vegas for games. Nobody in their right mind wants to go to fucking Oakland!
Not just Oakland, it's compounded by having, arguably, the worst venue in professional sports. I don't know how they've lasted in Oakland this long. That stadium has been falling apart for 25 years.
