1. Suppose They Held an Autograph Session and Nobody Came?
OK, it wasn't quite like that. But it wasn't anything like what I expected. I did not plan to go after autographs. I just showed up at 6:50 to get a seat and watch things unfold. As it turned out I walked right onto the field. Most lines were 5-10 people deep and moved quickly. Only really lengthy lines were for 33, 28 and JT.
If you want autographs this was the session.
2. Boy Scouts come Prepared.
I wasn't a boy scout (their whole attitude towards gays just strikes me as wrong). So I wasn't prepared. I did manage to get 10 sigs in as many minutes (including at least 5 future NFLers) - but they are all nicely displayed on my Final Four BASKETBALL cap, which is all I had with me to be signed. (None of the players commented - I think they thought I was just retarded.)
Oh well. Can't read any of them anyhow. I will put it on e-Bay and tell people two of them are Conley and Oden. Should make a handy profit.
3. Credit to the Players
It was pretty warm. Had to be extremely boring to sit there for over an hour and just keep writing your name. Most of the players were showing the wear by the time I got there. Still, I could not get a picture of Chris Wells without a smile on his face.
Pretorius was upbeat as well. I did get a chance to congratulate him on landing the kicking job. I really like this kid.
4. Drills
Most of the practice consisted of drills. For the most part drills are drills, and not that exciting. However, I did find this one particularly interesting.

5. Seats
Don't know how many folks are aware of this, but with your season ticket application this year you are offered the option of a cushioned seat. It is an extra $50 or so (I paid $14 for season tickets when I was student. Now it is three times that just to make your seat more comfortable.)
The seat is put in place by the University (you lease it, not buy it) and they were guaranteed to be there before the first game.
Well, they are already in place.

And this could be fun. Remember the days when chubby could just plop down and take as much room as she needed? Not if you are next to one of these babies. (Or in one for that matter. I have a 38" waist and just fit.)
They are about 3"s high and squeezing up next to one is anything but comfortable.
So if your waist is much larger than my 40" waist you could be in trouble.
And there are a LOT of fans with waists bigger than my 42"s.
6. Most memorable character
The vendor who was pushing water as "O-H-2-O".
7. Hit of the Night
Clifford on Russel on a kick return. Laid him out pretty good. Clifford looked good all night.
8. Nacho Report
Never had nachos at a practice session before. Pretty sweet.
They were hot and tasty, but the lady was slow with my change and acted offended when I asked her to top off the cheese well. (If she is going to work the cheese machine that makes her the cheese-bitch and she might as well hear it from me first.)
I dropped a few peppers, got cheese in my moustache and on my shirt, and ran out of cheese before I exhausted my chips - something I almost never let happened. (I just hate it when I have to break the chips into little pieces, lick my finger to get them to stick, and then run my chip covered finger around the inside of the cheese well.)
But these are all things that can be worked out before the first game.
9. Number I most wanted to look up when I got home.
Didn't have a roster and there were no names on the jerseys, leading to a lot of guesswork on who was who. But #10 - playing on offense - impressed me most. Showed speed, made some moves and some nice catches. Very surprised to learn it was Torrence.
Here is a shot of him in action:

10. Quarterback Controversy
I wanted to post something for the newbies about how Henton was dominant. But I figured that would just make it over to Bucknuts and by tomorrow I wouldn't be able to get on the Internet at all.
Truth is Boeckman and Schoenhoft got most of the reps and looked very sharp IMO.
11. Kicking Game
A good bit of practice was spent working on the kicking game. Issues from the kick scrimmage I suppose.
I still saw a lot of mistakes and a few blocked kicks and dropped returns.
The competition between Pretorius and Pettrey seemed spirited. Pettrey in particular looked much focused. ("much focused" sure sounds strange to me, but that was spell checks recommendation instead of "very focused", so I thought I would run with it)
Nonetheless I didn't see Pettrey take his kick offs into the end zone. As JT said this week, it is strange that a kicker who could kick it through the end zone last year has trouble getting it into the end zone from five yards further away.
12. The Field Itself
Almost forgot the field report. Wow. Much nice. Much, much nice.
No seams. Much solid feel. And the colors just jump out at you. It may not be a true scarlet, but it sure is purdy.
13. Don't Ask - Don't Tell
Finally, I have stated my empathy for the gay species above. So I was glad to see that JT has also seen the rainbow and is allowing his gay players to express themselves.

14.. Almost forgot -
The few times I saw him Freeman he was running with the 1's.
Beanie was practicing but not taking a lot of carries that I saw.
Olson was wearing a boot and on crutches.
No sign of any other injured players that haven't already been reported.
