    ODB is Dead

    MTV News

Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard died on Saturday (November 13) in New York, according to his spokesperson.

Sources close to ODB (whose real name was Russell Jones) said he had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the
    day.

A statement was released Saturday evening by ODB's mother, Cherry Jones. "This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," she said. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper — he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son. With love, Cherry Jones.

MTV News will have more on this story as it develops.

That's awesome. Not only was he actually good (where were you during the mid-90's that you can say that? He WAS hip-hop), but it's one of the most insensitive comments about this whole thing thing, and I've heard a lot.

I hope that's what it reads on your tombstone. Have some fucking respect.

RIP, Dirty. Just because you liked to have fun and weren't perfect, every asshole has an opinion about you. Was he a perfect role model? No, but he made a lot of people happy and didn't deserve to go so long, especially after he'd just gotten his life back together.

it was only a joke man, calm down..

edit: basically, I was implying that if he was a big star, then it would get much more recognition

Sorry, I didn't think it was that funny. I guess it's just that I heard it all from my friends last night (I heard Ol' Dead Bastard about twenty times), and I just feel bad. He wasn't a perfect guy, but he doesn't deserve to be made fun of. Nothing personal against you but I didn't think it was funny. Sorry for the knee-jerk reaction.

Regardless, he WAS a big star at one time, and was fixing to be one again with an album due out next year on Rocafella. Although it wasn't immediately drug related, it was probably a by-product of his use. He had cleaned himself up and found the Lord and I'm just happy that he did that before he passed and as a result, may have made up for some of his previous sins.

I understand, it was a bit of a harsh comment looking back, but I have respect for him because I am a Wu fan myself. I was and still am looking forward to their new album. Atleast he did get himself together before his untimely passing. RIP
