Do you think these are real offers, or kids interperting the letter from OSU saying they are being tacked and targeted as offers?

I would assume some are real and some is interpretation i.e. Daniels said he received an offer but as of now it is still verbal- he is supposed to get the written offer at camp.

HH- What do you think??

I think these offers very well could be legit. With Conley being gone and the new recruiting coordinator here I could definitely see a change in philosophy when it comes to the way offers go out. If these offers are indeed true, then I look at this as a similar way to what the University of Miami does recruiting style wise. They seem to go hard early on after out of state kids, get thier foot in the door with them with an offer and then wait till middle to late summer to start offering more in state kids. This is just my opinion on whats happening but I could definitely see it as a viable change in philosophy.

86: Added Thomas to the database. I would like to hold off on listing someone as offered until we're really sure they have indeed been offered, preferably in writing. That's just my personal preference. But since the database is for everyone on BP, if you all prefer to have it annotated that they've even said they've been offered, then I could do that.

osubartender23: I'm not all that keen on tossing out a shit-load of offers early. By my count now, we have at least 30 offers (and that's not including Simpson which would bring that total up to 31 offers). With us having three commits already, thats 27-31 offers to fill a lot fewer openings than that. I hate over-offering. We don't need another fiasco where we pull an offer from a commit like we had last year.

Here's an updated chart of our offers:

Over offering? Hey, you have to offer more than you have spaces for because not everybody says yes. Also I would think that nearly all offers are dependent on their being a space left in the class. If there are offers out to 3 RBs and the staff only will take 1, once the first guys commits the other two are either told the ship is no longer available or slow played depending on the staff's feeling about the strength of the commitment. Now if you take a commitment and then back out of it to take someone else you like better - that is unethical in my mind. I don't know what happened with the kid last year. I hope it wasn't that.

Zeke, up through last year, we offered only what we had, maybe plus one or two schoolies, and that was it. Once we lost out on a big-name recruit we shifted that offer to someone else. I don't recall us offering more than 10 schollies than we had available...

Zeke, up through last year, we offered only what we had, maybe plus one or two schoolies, and that was it. Once we lost out on a big-name recruit we shifted that offer to someone else. I don't recall us offering more than 10 schollies than we had available...

According to Rivals we offered 83 kids last year. I find it very hard to believe there wasn't a time when we didn't have far more than 10 offers out over the amount of scholies we had available. Just looking through the list I can say that most of these offers did not come very late in the process. Telling a kid who has not committed that he longer has an offer because there are no scholarships left shouldn't be frowned upon, IMO. That's the chance you take when you wait until late in the year to decide where you want to go to school. You can offer as many kids as you want, you just can't send an LOI to all of them. Can't a school have something like 55 kids make official visits to their school? You'd assume most of them have an offer, pushing the number well over the number of slots available.

BuckNutty, I wonder if all of those were real, no-shit written offers. If so, then it seems that we open ourselves up for getting a lot of kids we may not realy want. Yeah, I know...if we really didn't want them then we wouldn't offer in the first place, but still...

I know what you're saying about whether these offers are legit. It's well documented that some of these recruits think they have offers when they really don't. Since the universities themselves cannot comment on prospective recruits I'm not sure you can go by anything other than their word because no other confirmation is coming.

osubartender23: I'm not all that keen on tossing out a shit-load of offers early.

Most of the early offers are to out-of-state long shots, where the Bucks have a 0-10% chance of landing a given kid. Not many of these offered players will accept OSU. Some examples are Ryan Perilloux, Fred Rouse, Walker Ashley, and Travis Beckham - I'd be surprised if any of these kids ends up at OSU, or even gives the Bucks any serious interest. Once OSU's camps are over, then we will see a lot more offers to players who might actually go to OSU (mostly in state kids, but also some OOS talent like Gene Delle Donne, Joe Akers, or Morgan Thomas).

Agreed. Nice post, LJB.

I'd be willing to bet there are

1) quite a few guys we've never discussed that OSU has offered and is pursuing. These guys come up all the time at this point in the recruiting season.

2) quite a few of the stud recruits that have been offered by OSU yet don't have any interest in us (thus we never even hear about them). These are the guys that people ask "why isn't OSU in on him. He's a stud" about. In reality OSU probably offered and got no interest back.

3) kids that claim an OSU offer but don't have one. We seem to get more of these than other schools, i.e. Buford, Morton, etc.

Whatever Rivals says we've offered, I'd probably add 10-20 to that number in reality. They can only contact so many players a day. If you look at some of these guys, it's been a month since their last update. It's way too hard to keep an accurate and up-to-date database at this point in the year. Rivals in general does a better job than Insiders though, IMO.
