Hard-fought road victory helps boost confidence
Players hope team can build on it

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
MADISON, Wis. -- In a span of just more than six minutes, the Ohio State defense went from being the goat to clinching the 20-17 victory over Wisconsin on Saturday night in a crucial Big Ten road game. Whether it proves to be a springboard to bigger things remains to be seen, but OSU linebacker Ross Homan said the win sure beat the feeling the team had after the 35-3 loss on Sept. 13 at Southern California in its previous road game.
"It's huge, personally, because after the USC game, you kind of re-evaluate yourself and from the team standpoint," Homan said. "Coach (Jim) Tressel always stresses that any win on the road in the Big Ten is huge. It boosts our confidence as a team, and hopefully as individuals as well."
That said, the defense gave up the long drive that led to Wisconsin's go-ahead touchdown, the exclamation point coming when running back P.J. Hill lowered his head into Homan and barely crossed the goal line.
"It kind of hurt our confidence a little bit, we kind of felt like we'd let down our offense a little bit," Homan said. "But we bounced back (Terrelle Pryor led the Buckeyes to his winning 11-yard TD run), and on Wisconsin's final possession, Malcolm had a great interception."

Bucks v. Wiscy

Incredibly physical game. OSU got pushed around some and Wiscy got pushed around some. Pryor continued to grow albeit he had some glitches. In the end his abilities helped win in crunch time. Great "Big 10" style game.

Watch out for Illinois and Penn State. Ohio State must get better for them!

Good to see Boone come through with a good game.

I am seriously interested to see the Wisky/PSU game this weekend. I still think Wisconsin is near the top in the Big 10, but it escapes me trying to figure out how that second half collapse happened in Michigan. I refuse to believe Michigan is even half the team that Wisconsin is. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wisky run the table, but this weekend will be the toughest test. Actually, I don't remember where the game will be played... dang.

I'll be feeling pretty good about the Buckeyes if Wisky can pull out a win against PSU. But, I guess the flip side is a higher ranked PSU team will be a good thing for the Buckeyes.

The game will be a night game, 8 pm start in Madison.
Delusional to assume Bucky Badgers won't be desparate and play some passionate and violent ball. I haven't heard if the band suspension is over, but they sure add to the home field advantage.
Got to think that the Nits will have their hands full in a hostile environment.
Also the PSU opposition ought to be getting the HD offense figured out.
Maybe we'll see more of Beckum and Clay in Wisky attack.
Agree about feeling good about the Buckeyes if Wisky pulls the upset. This will not be any easy W for PSU.

I think we need to root for the team we still have yet to play, and not the team that we already played...if your goal is national perception. BUT, if your goal is winning the Big Ten, then you have to root for the team we already beat. So...GO WISKY!!!!

Yeah, I see your point. I'm having trouble deciding who to root for. On one hand, if Wisky gets ripped apart by PSU, that takes away from the sweetness of this past weekend (a little, at least). But, if PSU loses, we won't have the chance to beat a top 5 (or 6) team two weeks later. Maybe the best situation is a close game with PSU coming out on top. But, I might find myself pulling for Wisky in spite of my brain.

Bielema candid about OSU loss

By Jeff Potrykus

Monday, Oct 6 2008, 06:39 PM

Madison - Bret Bielema was quite candid today in discussing several aspects of Wisconsin's loss to Ohio State.

We'll have a story up on our site later tonight detailing his view of what happened to UW's defense on Terrelle Pryor's 11-yard touchdown run with 1 minute 8 seconds left.
(Here is a brief preview: Bielema wasn't aware of the extent to which UW's defense was disorganized and misaligned until Sunday when the staff reviewed the video.)
Until then, here are some of his comments regarding the clock/timeout issues UW endured.
UW burned its first timeout in the first quarter after tailback John Clay gained 3 yards for a first down at the Ohio State 37. UW called a timeout with 6 minutes 50 seconds left in the half and 11 seconds left on the 40-second play clock.
Insignificant? Not when you consider that the decision meant the Badgers, who wisely used their second timeout on defense during the Buckeyes' final possession of the half, had just one timeout left when they took over at their 20 with 52 seconds left.
