Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

who preceded pete? john robinson?

John was in the late 70s early 80s I believe. The preceding coach to Pete was the .500 shooting Paul Hackett, something like 19-18 or 20-19 in his 3 years. The real USC headlining coach was McKay(4 titles).

I remember reading something that stated USC was trying to play it's 2008 games at the Rose Bowl. Does anyone know for sure if the game will be played there or at the Coliseum?
They are still in negotiations with the coliseum comm. I dont think it will happen, because ucla is under contract with the rose bowl as their home, and ucla said they would let sc play there for 1 year and no more. Usc just wants the commission to fix up the stadium. It has had the same old bathrooms for at least 30 yrs.

With USC losing 4/5 OL, one has to like our defense's chances to stuff the run and get pressure on the Trojan QB that early in the season.

so whats the tally on this now that they know who is staying and who is leaving?

4 OL need replaced
2 DL
1 LB
1 QB

?? I'm not sure of any of that outside the QB.

Edit

Link to USC's last 2007 depth chart

Looks like they have to replace:
4 OL
TE
QB

1 DE
Nose Tackle
Will LB
1 CB

Long snapper
Holder

That's 10 of the 22 position players and a couple of key specialists. I know they have tons of talent to step in but thats a lot of offense to replace by week 3.

quit bringing this stuff up.....you are giving all the talking heads ammo to use when we kick USC's ass. Our win will mean nothing because of all the talent USC lost. Of course at years end when they beat up on a bunch of mediocre teams, they will be the team playing the best football "right now".

"Mediocre"?
You're calling Oregon St, Stanford, WA, etc "mediocre"?

That's an insult to mediocrity, right there. :tongue2:

They will have a lot of weapons on O and a very good, fast back 7 on D...........but at least with everybody coming back for tOSU, they will get the full monty from us.

I'd bet cash money that at least 50% of currently self identified USC "fans" couldn't remember the name of the coach immediately preceding Carroll, or the more famous guy with the initials JR who preceded him.
Paul hackett. Before him was larry smith, before him was ted tollner, before him was john robinson, before him was john mckay. I was born in 61 ,so mckay was the first coach I remember. Anything else?:)

Make no mistake. This will be a WAR! They wanted us in the Rose Bowl to try and humiliate us. They got a lowly Illinois team star struck just being there. They have an extra week off to prepare and it will be a hornets nest.
They will run it up if given even the slightest chance.
I believe Tress will have us ready. But, it will be a classic show down.

I once saw a USC fan get his noodle baked really good online when he was bragging about their coaches and got going on their first really great head coach, Howard Jones. The fool didn't realize that Jones was an Ohio native, was head coach at OSU a decade and a half before he ever showed up at USC, and coached and was AD at Iowa for damn near a decade after that.

The idiot acted like Jones sprung up full grown in downtown LA.

The difference is that tOSU doesnt have to fully focus on the 2 opponents prior to uscUM to beat them easily(YSU/OHIO). So the entire off-season can go to prep for uscUM. On the other hand uscUM has to prepare all off season to fly across america and play a very good Virginia team that could beat uscUM if things go right. I think the extra week they get won't make up for the entire off-season of prep the bucks will be able to lean on, plus the experiences of extreme hostile environments and west coast trips(Tex 06, PSU 07, wash 07, LSU 07) will help their cause. Not to mention that ESPN will help make the bucks 7 point to 10 point dogs.
