Ohio State at Nebraska, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 7 PM ET, Peacock

Ehhhh, he strikes me as one of those coaches who is perfect for a mid-major who would struggle at a program like tOSU (turns out like the guy we hired). I remember there was a lot of smoke around just before Holtmann was hired and most of us were none too happy. He's beloved here in Omaha, though.

I'm not sure I'd call the Big East a mid-major conference. They've won three of the last 8 national titles, 3 more than the B1G. Creighton has reached the sweet 16 and elite 8 two of the last three years as a Big East team.

One benefit Big East teams have is basketball is king. None of them play FBS football, if they play football at all, with the exception of UConn's shitty program. Their women's hoops team is a bigger investment.

Obviously, we know what is king at Ohio State. Some coaches handle being in that shadow better than others. I'm thinking about a hoops coach at a school with a decent football program but does well, and would find Ohio State to be a better opportunity. Can't come up with any names off the top of my head. Maybe our new AD can poach Buzz Williams from Aggy?

I forgot there was even a game tonight. Just saw the score, glad I did. Fire Holtmann.
Same here on both points. At least the horse's leg is clearly broke so we can put it to pasture and move on. I don't think this season was ever going to be salvaged, better off to cut our ties than CH barely gets another year.

Fair, but I just think "mid-major" when I think of Creighton.

I still remember hearing "Creighton" whenever Benoit Benjamin would be introduced on 90's NBA broadcasts and thinking "where the fuck is that?"

Back in the day when if you were 7 feet tall you got drafted. Dallas had consecutive picks in the first round of Benjamin's draft and took Bill Wennington and Uwe Blab - twin towers, baby! More like a couple of stiffs.

I remember when I was an undergrad, #1 ranked Indiana and Blab came to St. John's to play OSU and Granville Waiters (and Ron Stokes). Buckeyes upset the Hoosiers! Loudest I've ever heard! The Schott mausoleum pales in comparison.
