Ohio State at Northwestern, Saturday, January 27, 2024, 8:30 PM ET, BTN

will it be $70M+ ? if not ... the alumni can rummage around the coach cushions and make him disappear

It's not nearly that bad:

Chris Holtmann's new deal includes a 3-year extension that will keep him in Columbus through the 2027-28 season. He is getting a $500,000 raise, bringing his annual pay to $3.5 million with a base salary of $1.0 million per year.

We've never cultivated big Auburn type athletic donors. It goes back to Woody and for good reasons. We have the fifth largest public university endowment in the country, and if you want to dig down into the UC "system" endowment along with tejas and aggy system endowments, we're realistically third behind tcun and UVA as a single campus endowment.

My point is that we don't have the type of alumni "athletic department" whales that have that type of power. We've spent 70 years trying to prevent that, and I think it's been a policy that's served us very well. It's going to be a Carter/Bjork decision as it should be.

That decision should be to swing the axe. New B1G tv money will easily pay for it.

It's not nearly that bad:

Should Ohio State want to terminate Holtmann’s contract prior to 2028, he would be owed his full remaining salary. And should Holtmann leave Ohio State early, he would have a significant financial penalty.

If Holtmann elects to terminate his contract with the Buckeyes on or before June 30, 2023, he will pay Ohio State an amount equal to $2,500,000 within 35 days of his contract termination. If Holtmann terminates his employment between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, he will pay Ohio State an amount equal to $2,000,000. This number owed to Ohio State by Holtmann if he terminates his contract decreases by $500,000 until the final year when it drops to $250,000.

And yeah, fuck you, Gene. His career long neglect of both hockey programs has been my primary knock on him but extending Holtmann is right the fuck up there.
