The Buckeyes stopped their losing streak at four games thanks to great pitching.

After losing four games in a row on the road, including being swept last weekend by Maryland, the Ohio State baseball team returned to Columbus and to the win column with a 1-0 victory over Morehead State at Bill Davis Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Buckeyes, who are now 20-11-1 on the season and 11-1 at home, got great pitching and one timely hit to secure the win.

Austin Woodby took the ball looking for a better performance than his first start of the season. The redshirt sophomore, who gave up five runs and lasted just two innings in a no-decision against Toledo on March 30th, gave Ohio State just what it needed. Woodby tossed five shutout innings, yielding four hits and a walk while striking out one, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Redshirt sophomore closer Yianni Pavlopoulos, who had a tough weekend against the Terrapins, blowing two saves, got right back on the horse. The right-hander set Morehead down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning for his seventh save of the season.

For the Eagles, lefty Curtis Wilson made his fourth start and showed some grit after rolling his ankle while covering first base on a groundball off the bat of Ronnie Dawson in the first inning. Wilson basically matched Woodby's performance, giving up just one run on six hits in six innings, but ultimately took the loss.

In the bottom of the second, the Buckeyes drew first blood, and it turned out to be the only run of the entire game. Troy Kuhn led off with a sharp single, moved to second on a balk by Wilson, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jalen Washington. Ryan Leffel then smacked a double down the third base line to bring Kuhn around for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Seth Kinker and senior Michael Horejsei combined to throw three scoreless innings and deliver the lead to Pavlopoulos in the ninth. Ohio State pitching combined to allow just six hits and a walk on the day.

The Buckeyes and Eagles will take the field again tomorrow in Columbus. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET, and the game will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
