Ohio State is THE Cornerback U!

Yeah, but guys already in the club don't need to apply. :)

That's true. I wasn't trying to show that DBB was using hyperbole, just putting the info in here since some would wonder once the topic was raised, and it saves others from having to look it up.

Shawn Springs went #3, and Nate Clements went #21, for those that think he's the fifth guy, besides Tatum, Springs, Winfield, and Jenkins (whom I've listed in chronological order).

Neal Colzie was taken at #24, and Hopalong Cassady went #3 overall back in the day, and he may be in the top-5, but he was primarily drafted as a running back.

Vinnie Clark was taken #19, Tim Anderson at #23, Ahmed Plummer #24, and Chris Gamble #28.

Once again. Tatum at #19, and Winfield at #23, so all the info's in one post.

Three points...

  1. How many teams have that many 1st rounders to discuss?
  2. How many teams have one of their top historians say that a Heisman Trophy winner MAY be in the top-5 at a position in the schools history?
  3. How many schools have a historian that is on BB73's level? As for how good a nose-picker he is; I'll have to take Milli's word for it. I wasn't in the O-H-H-O picture...
EDIT:

The linked thread has the Top-5 as:

  1. Springs
  2. Winfield
  3. Colzie
  4. Jenkins
  5. Plummer

It didn’t hammer the field in the secondary like it did at linebacker, but more than a decade of consistency helped Ohio State claim the “Defensive Back U” title, too. When your school seems to always be in the thick of the championship chase, there’s a good chance that it will rank highly on these positional lists. Think Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Texas. We keep seeing their names, which makes perfect sense if you think of how many wins they accumulated in the 2000s -- and in the case of Ohio State at defensive back, a lengthy tradition from Mike Doss, Will Allen and Chris Gamble to Malcolm Jenkins to Bradley Roby helped the Buckeyes outpace contenders like LSU, Oklahoma and Miami to proclaim itself “DBU.”

Going back 26 drafts....

1991 Vinnie Clark
1997 Shawn Springs
1999 Antoine Winfield
2000 Ahmed Plummer
2001 Nate Clements
2004 Chris Gamble
2009 Malcolm Jenkins
2014 Bradley Roby
2016 Eli Apple

In that same time frame the NFL has drafted 23 other Buckeye DB's.

For fun, the best overall DB backfield I have seen was the 1998 team which fielded the following:
CB Antoine Winfield '99 1st round
CB Ahmed Plummer '00 1st round
S Damon Moore '99 4th round
S Gary Berry '00 4th round
NB Nate Clements '01 1st round
