The Buckeyes will have an uphill battle for his commitment, but they think they've found their next great linebacker.

The current Ohio State Buckeyes are putting in work in the weight room at this time of year. Meanwhile, the coaching staff is looking to continue building on a great 2017 class that is already considered the best in the country. With so many spots filled up, Ohio State will be picky over the next several months.

A new offer went out to outside linebacker Pete Werner. Werner, from Cathedral High School in Indiana, checks in at 6'3, 215 pounds and has a load of athleticism. Not only is he able to fill holes, his speed is what sets him apart from other prospects. He played a lot of cornerback this past season due to his speed, but will play linebacker at the next level.

Werner currently holds 23 offers, though Notre Dame and Stanford are considered the current favorites in this recruitment. However, Ohio State's history of developing NFL linebackers could end up being a factor in this one. Couple that in with the fact that, under Meyer, the emphasis has been to get long, athletic linebackers on the field and there's little doubt that the Buckeyes could end up making themselves a contender in this process. Werner is a current four-star prospect and the number two rated player in the state of Indiana.

Grateful for an offer from The Ohio State University!! Thanks to @CoachFick and the coaching staff! #GoBucks #OSU pic.twitter.com/Uu5t7ju3vo

Bucks showing interest in Carr

Staying in 2017, Ohio State is reportedly showing increased interest in all-purpose running back Stephen Carr. From Fontana, California, Carr is a USC commit as it stands right now. With Todd Sibley locked up, Ohio State is looking to add one more big-name prospect at this position of need. Carr could step in and be an excellent fit in Urban Meyer's offense as he not only has terrific vision and speed, but can catch the ball very well out of the backfield.

A four-star prospect and the number two rated running back in the country, Carr holds 13 total offers. It will be important for Ohio State to get him on campus at some point in the spring or over summer when the summer camp circuits are a full-go. It will be an uphill battle for the Buckeyes in this one, but Urban Meyer and his staff have pulled off surprises in the past.
