Ohio State Now "Other Ohio Team"

I don't know about that, but your mother sleeps with unshaven merchant seamen for nickels...

The funding of my college education isn't the topic here.

And to be fair to Mom, those without beards pay a dime.

H&G, Clearly ORD has personal issues he needs to work through when it comes to higher education in the State of Ohio.

Perhaps, but they're the same issues that every President of Ohio State University has had going back to Novice Fawcett. I've been in the same room with Ed Jennings when he's touched on this subject, and I can promise you that it makes my posts on BP sound like a Boy Scout talking aobut God, the flag and his dog skippy.

Higher education in the state of Ohio is not a happy, collaborative effort where all the schools have traditionally gathered around the figurative campfire to sing Kumbaya. It's frequently devolved into bare-knuckled regional pork-barrel politics and institutional backstabbing--most notably in the 60's and 70's when The Other State Universities teamed up with a sympathetic Governor to cut Ohio State off at the knees. If I choose to unabashedly call The Other State Universities out for their treachery and promote The Ohio State University's interests in this area, I do so with no hesitation and shouldn't considering I'm posting on a fucking Ohio State message board!

Then again, as a non-Ohio State alum, you probably don't really care too much about that history.

"act like you've been there before"? well, they haven't. This is clearly uncharted territory for UC. When you say that I should be ashamed or concerned about how UC fans, players, etc...behaved after winning the berth, well, I'm going to have to call bull [censored] on that.
I'd rather a player call out OSU and fans to celebrate with the team and the football website to say "Ohio's BCS" team (funny how you don't complain about OSU fans saying THE Ohio State University when you are aware, as much as I am, that's meant to slam all the other state schools) is much better than burning couches, turning over cars, beating down opposing fans in parking garages or having mass arrests. As an OSU fan, I'm more embarrassed by that than I am as a UC alumnus over the web site or Marddy Gilyard.

Wellee, wellee, wellee my drugie. It would appear that one needn't scratch the FREDO ALUM/ohio state "fan" too hard before his true allegiences appear.

Busting out the riot smack? Pathetic! You might want to actually look at the arrest reports for those riots. There were more students from The Other State Universities arrested than Ohio State students.

As for the "THE" it wasn't meant as a "slam" towards the Other State Universities. Ed Jennings started using it during the twilight of the Jim Rhodes administration (the most hostile Governorship in Ohio State's history) as a subtle reminder to the state's politicians, taxpayers and newspapers that THE (included in the legal name of the university in 1873) Ohio State University was founded by the state and nurtured from its very inception to be the state's flagship campus--a fact that was written into law in 1906 in the Eagleson Bill.

Ohio State is the flagship campus of Ohio's higher education system. It was founded to be so and was written into law as such. UC was a municipal university on the verge of bankruptcy when it was folded into the state system in 1977. I'd prefer that they say, "thank you" but I'll settle for them merely going on their way!

Honestly, if UC is nothing more than gum on the bottom of the shoe to a program like OSU, where does the hatred come from?
The hatred is coming from being on edge. Us Buckeye fans are fed up with getting shit.

We all know how good we've been the last few years. All we have to show for it is disrespect from the national media.

And now UC is talking shit?

UC is nothing more than gum on our shoes.. I wouldn't even give them that much credit.. they are more like gum on the sidewalk we stepped around.

Don't take my animosity as a compliment to UC's success. They are a joke.

"act like you've been there before"? well, they haven't. This is clearly uncharted territory for UC.
The comments made were bush league. Rec league football.

Ever watched Rec league football?

I can assume that you've never set foot on UC's campus let alone Nippert stadium, so stop talking like you have any freaking clue that you know what you're talking about.
Apparently you have. (What the fuck is a Nippert?)

I don't know about the fans.. I haven't paid much attention to this crap.. as for the players comments.. you aren't ashamed or embarrassed by that?

Bush league.

Stupid. This is not why "THE" is used. "When you are aware, as much as I am" - seriously?

is much better than burning couches, turning over cars, beating down opposing fans in parking garages or having mass arrests.
Doubt you find anyone here that is proud of such things. What a shitty point to make.

Fuck M*ch*g*n.

UC is good this year. Not quite as good as Ohio State, but I think they are as good as a Northwestern let's say, or a Michigan State. Again...wouldn't beat Ohio State, or Penn State, but would be competitive against the rest of the Big Ten. They are definitely the best team in the Big East.

That being said...Cincinnati is the best team in the state...and that's because Cincinnati isn't part of Ohio...it's part of Kentucky. So yes UC...you are the best team in Kentucky! Congrats!

As someone who has lived in Cincinnati for about 15 years I have to say that this is simply not true.

If you're talking about the Cincinnati Airport then that's a different story though...

Cincinnati has a college football team?

Yep, they're called the Bungals, and they're terrible! :(

edit:

Which brings to mind a bumper sticker I read once (maybe it was referenced in a thread here on BP)

"GO BENGALS! ..........and take the Reds with you!"

The played @ Cincy in 02 & were scheduled to play there in 12 before buying out the game.
College football is about money. Playing at Nippert would be a major money loser for the Ohio State program..

The game wouldn't be at Nippert, like the 02 game it would be in Paul Brown Stadium. Nippert is just as big as Dyke, Northwestern's home.

Personally I would be embarassed if the institutions I've attended or individuals associated with them behaved in a similar vein. I'd like to think I'd spend more time chastising them with lame old chestnusts like "Act Like You've Been There Before" rather than bend over backwards defending their classless behavior.

If you don't want to be treated like little brother then don't freakin' act like little brother.

And if you want to be seen as Big Brother, act like Big Brother and stop worrying about what some kid in Cincinnati says while celebrating his team's success. I thought arrogance stopped on the other side of the Toledo city limits.

Just to add my opinion (because I know how much everyone cares :)), I have no problem with what the UC player said (thought it was rather comical, but not pissed about it)...but I thought the banner the UC Athletic Dept. originally put up on their site was a bit "small" of them. And that's what I think is chapping most people's ass in the situation.

and whom should they thank, ORD? Last time I checked, while a state school, UC is not a satellite campus of OSU.
you're right about one thing, though. As a non-OSU alumn, I couldn't give a shit about funding and politics and whatever else it is that keeps you up late at night in your basement gripping the stress ball(s). I care about football and how those bitching about UC are acting 100X worse in their response and feel its justified or are too igrnorant or biased to see how they are acting.
