The Buckeyes offered a 2019 QB. Is he the one they want for 2019?
One would think that a well deserved vacation would be earned by the Ohio State Buckeyes coaching staff after their 2018 recruiting haul. With ample talent at literally every spot they wanted, the only class this one out-did was the Ohio State class of 2017. When the only goal is to “one up” yourself every year, you have a serious recipe for success and Urban Meyer and his crew have mixed together a pretty successful recipe to say the least. In terms of that well deserved vacation though, well, that’s not a “thing” as the Ohio State staff has obviously wasted no time at all as they are in total pursuit of 2019 kids. With the recruiting calendar changing and moving timetables up a bit, Meyer knows there’s not a second he can afford to waste so total dedication to the class of 2019 is in full effect.
Cali QB receives big time Midwest offer
For the first time since 2007, OSU faces a QB situation where not one current roster QB has started a game. Many may fear that reality, but truth be told, with the talent on-hand in Columbus, the QB situation is not a desperate measure. In fact, many believe this next wave of talent could be even more impressive than the previous reign under center.
However you figure it, the signal caller is easily one of, if not the most important position not only on the field, but on the roster as a whole and this staff knows that. After a sweepstakes recruitment in 2018, Meyer is looking to 2019 as a year for a solid pledge and a QB he can build around rather than have to lay out the red carpet 24/7 just to keep him in the class. As Meyer and company prowl the four corners of the earth for their guy in 2019, yesterday may have helped shed a little more light on the subject as the next QB to earn an offer from the prestigious Buckeyes announced via his Twitter account.
Enter, California native Jayden Daniels and you have a 6-foot-3, 170-pound dual-threat QB that currently grades out as a very high four-star, on the brink of earning that ever so popular five-star ranking. Boasting a serious pedigree as the nation’s second ranked dual-threat QB, Jayden is also listed as the 14th best prospect in a loaded 2019 state of California. With nearly 20 scholarship offers to go along with the rest of his accolades, Daniels is a “can’t miss” type of talent and a signal caller anyone in the country would love to add to their class.

The California kid is thought to be a USC lean early on, but the nearby UCLA Bruins have already claimed that Daniels is their “top guy” without a doubt. Many times, when the USC and UCLA’s of the world are in it this early and often for a home-state kid, it’s hard to pull them away from the sun and sand, but if anyone can pull top recruits out of California, Ohio State and Meyer certainly can. They’ve done it in back-to-back classes, and they look to be up to trying their luck again with Jayden. If a visit comes to fruition, all is possible, but look for the Buckeyes to at least lure him to campus before they come a serious threat to land this top ranked stud.
In need of more of the O-line guys, please
If there is a position of need in the 2019 class, it’s definitely on the offensive line. While the Buckeyes struck gold on signing day with the nation’s top offensive tackle prospect, they know they’ll need more of the same this coming year due to a heavy turnover rate in Columbus with veteran guys graduating. When one leaves, another must come on board, and yesterday, Ohio State showed they’re hot on the trail as they went after and offered another top elite offensive line talent.
William Harrod, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound monster sized talent from Fort Washington, Md., was on the receiving end of a Buckeye offer yesterday—and is one the Buckeyes would love to add to the mix. Ranked as the No. 5 prospect in Maryland for the 2019 class, Harrod is also a top-25 offensive tackle prospect in the country giving him a very well deserved four-star ranking, according to 247sports.

With nearly 20 offers already, Harrod has schools such as Michigan, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Kentucky and South Carolina already in his pocket with more top caliber programs certainly to come by after seeing his offer list continue to increase. Interestingly enough, Harrod is thought to be a Michigan lean as all current crystal ball predictions concerning him are in favor of the fighting khaki pants Wolverines. In a battle concerning football and/or recruiting, though, Meyer is undefeated against his greatest rival.
What does the crystal ball say?
This early on in recruiting for a class, a 247sports crystal ball pick can mean a lot of things. It can mean something a little more meaningful though when it comes from the Director of Recruiting at 247sports, Steve Wiltfong. Yesterday, Wiltfong, who is more than up to date on Ohio State recruiting at all times of day, submitted a prediction in favor of the Buckeyes for Maryland native Nick Cross. The DeMatha Catholic hard-hitting safety is no slouch either. This four-star prospect grades out as the nation’s ninth best safety and the fourth best player from Maryland. Enter current Buckeyes such as Dwayne Haskins and Chase Young and you see why Maryland is an important territory to recruit well in.
There’s certainly more than enough time for other schools to come in a play a major factor in Cross’ decision, but if it were to end sooner rather than later, the Buckeyes are sitting very pretty for this wrecking ball style defensive back. With the success Ohio State is having year in and year out in the defensive backfield, no one can blame Cross and anyone else who wants to join that position group. If a decision were to happen in the near future, a crystal ball prediction may just give that hint. However, time will only tell.
