Ohio State is one step closer to adding another standout.

Already considered as the top rated 2016 recruiting class, the Buckeyes are still in the mix for a number of the elite seniors in the country. Looking to add to an impressive defensive line class, Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff are one step closer to doing just that.

On Friday, four-star defensive tackle Chris Daniels announced on his Twitter page that he is down to Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Ohio State.

Visiting Columbus just under a month ago, Daniels, a Texas native, had the chance to meet with the Ohio State coaches, and see the campus up close and personal. While the Buckeyes made his short list, most around the scene currently predict the 6'4, 300-pound standout to stay closer to home in the Southwest.

A the moment, Daniels, who finished his junior campaign with over 40 total tackles, and seven sacks, is the 17th defensive tackle, and 157th overall prospect in the 2016 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

I just want to thank everyone for tuning in & following me through this process my Top 5 is #UofM #Bama #OU #A&M #OSU pic.twitter.com/Q14L0XfxvG

OSU commits face off

In a battle of Central Ohio foes, Westerville South mingled with Gahanna Lincoln on Friday evening. The game didn't just put two power house Columbus programs against each other; it also had a pair of future Buckeyes facing off.

2016 pledge Jonathon Cooper took on 2017 commit Marcus Williamson and both players really came to play. Getting doubled teamed most of the night, Cooper still ended up with numerous tackles and forced a fumble from his linebacker spot.

Williamson's play of the night came on special teams. The defensive back took a punt return from 60 yards out to the house for a score.

While both commits had decent games, a potential Buckeye might have stole the spotlight. Showing why he's considered a top 2018 prospect, Jaelen Gill was a main piece of the Westerville South offense all night. Even though he shined in the back field, it was through the air where he really showed off his speed.

In the fourth quarter, Gill caught a screen pass and hustled down the field 67 yards to the endzone for a Westerville South touchdown.

Both Williamson and Gill scored touchdowns, but it wasn't enough for Westerville South to walk away with the win falling to Gahanna Lincoln, 20-13.

Quick Hits

  • Two future Buckeyes had to watch their teammates from the sidelines over the weekend. Class of 2016 pledges Demario McCall and Austin Mack both sat out for their respected programs. While their star players didn't play, McCall and Mack's teams still picked up wins on Friday. North Ridgeville defeated Steele, 18-14. In a defensive battle, Mack's squad, Bishop Luers (IN), walked away with 7-0 victory over Concorida Lutheran.
  • Even though McCall and Mack didn't suit up, many of their soon-to-be teammates did. Which OSU commit did enough to walk away as the MVP of the Week? Let your voice be heard, and vote. Poll closes at noon (ET).
