Ohio State @ Rutgers, Wednesday, January 9 @ 7pm, BTN

Frankly, I’m shocked we didn’t lose by double digits. Just not enough talent here yet. Gonna have to be patient and take some lumps this year. They’ve shown they can play with, and even beat, some really good teams...just not there consistency-wise.

I feel the same way now as I did before game one, we’ll beat a couple teams we shouldn’t, lose to a couple we shouldn’t, and probably be a fringe tournament team.

Holtmann better have these guys shoot a thousand shots each. EMBARRASSING!! Rutgers, are you kidding me? Guards are way too inconsistent. And why does it seem like every damn year conference opponents come into our gym and either get fair or better than fair treatment from the refs. Yet, when we play on the road we get the screwin'. Total B.S. I grew up with the Bobby Knight, Gene Keady, Jud Heathcoat coaches where no team ever came into their gymnasium and got the refs. Pisses me off that we hardly ever get home cooking. Kinda like football where we always seem to have a top 5 defense, yet never get holding called on the opponents. Or targeting, or pass interference. I hate BigTen officiating. Kaleb getting 2 early fouls set the tone. Don't think it didn't.

This is essentially the same team that struggled to beat an awful YSU and got owned by a so-so Cuse on our home court.

People looked at the Ws and thought the losses or close-calls were the flukes but the reality is that this team is really inconsistent because the upperclassmen are very limited players and our only guys with decent upside are frosh. We don't have size or length or plus athleticism or even plus on the skill for a high major. It's been smoke and mirrors and a fool's gold schedule.

I'm not sure about a lot of Holtmann's decisions with this game, primarily in the area of not sitting some guys that needed to sit and letting them rain 3s that weren't going in all night. Maybe he was hoping Washington, Woods, and CJ would shoot themselves out of their funks but it didn't happen and we lost.

I guess for the first time in his tenure I am going to question Coach Holtmann. I do not know why he took out K Wesson with about 5 minutes to go, maybe more. It is when Rutgers went on their 10-0 run. Holtmann should have called timeout when Rutgers scored 6 straight points and reinserted K Wesson. He waited too long. If Wesson was fatigued, the TO would have given him some time to recuperate rather than just watching Rutgers extend their lead. Maybe Wesson would not have done anything to change the outcome but I think it was a mistake not to put him back in sooner.

I can hardly wait to see the zone defense that we will see from Iowa this coming Saturday and the zone defenses that we will see from a lot of other teams the remainder of this season.
