Ohio State extended an offer to Omar Manning. Do the Buckeyes have a chance at making him become a member of the scarlet and gray family?
With spring practice over, the full attention of the Ohio State coaching staff will be spent on the recruiting trail. We are entering the spring evaluation period which is always one of the busiest times for coaches when it comes to recruiting. The Buckeyes' staff will be in to see many prospects over the next month as they try and add onto an already loaded class for this cycle.
A new offer went out on Tuesday night to wide receiver prospect Omar Manning (Lancaster, Texas / Lancaster). Manning checks in at 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds and is a beast in every sense of the word. He's an instant mismatch for defensive backs because of his size and he's also strong enough to break through the arm tackles of linebackers.
Holding 31 total offers, Manning can be selective and take his recruiting process slow. TCU and Texas A&M are thought to be the favorites at this point, according to 247Sports. For Ohio State to have a shot, they'll need to get Manning on campus sometime this summer. Though there are limited spots left in the 2017 class, Manning is a talent that wouldn't be passed on if he wanted to commit. Still, Ohio State will be fighting an uphill battle in this one, trying to get back in the race for the four-star receiver. Overall, Manning is rated as the 21st best receiver.

Checking in with the RB from the Magnolia State
According to reports, Ohio State running back coach Tony Alford will be in Mississippi today to check in on Cam Akers (Clinton, Miss. / Clinton). As you know, Akers is one of the top running backs in the country and will likely be a consensus five-star prospect by the time his senior season is underway. Ohio State is in a great position with Akers as it stands right now. He's already been to Columbus twice on his own dime and had Urban Meyer and Alford go visit him months back. There's a real connection between Akers and Ohio State. Though he's from the south, he's very much in play for the Buckeyes.
It might be too early to call Ohio State the favorite, but if he's able to make it back to campus sometime this summer, it would be telling where Ohio State stands – though it's not crucial he reports back to Columbus before his official visit. The challengers to Ohio State in this one will be home-state team Ole Miss as well as Georgia and Tennessee. Any other year, Akers would be the No.1 rated running back in his class, but the honor this year goes to Najee Harris (Antioch, Calif. / Antioch), but that's not a knock. Akers is an elite talent with a very good shot to eventually land in Columbus.
