Ohio State Track and Cross Country (2020, 2021 B1G Women's outdoor Track Champs)

Bill Stanley = All-American

Freshman Billy Stanley earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the javelin on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

"Bill Stanley had a tremendous impact as a true freshman with his fourth-place first team All-America javelin throw," Ohio State head coach Ed Beathea said. "We're proud of his efforts in helping our team to a 21st-place team finish. This is a great way to round out our season."

Stanley cleared 72.79 meters (238-10) on his sixth attempt to claim the first-ever All-America award for the Buckeyes in the javelin. Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M won the national title with a throw of 77.95 meters (255-09).

A native of South Park, Pa., Stanley closes his freshman campaign as the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten javelin champion and the Ohio State- and Big Ten-record holder in the event.

The Buckeyes concluded the NCAA championships with 11 points, good for 21st-place overall. The standing ranks as Ohio State's best finish since 2004.

I love it too. I grew up running CC and Track among other sports. I just wish we could keep the best distance runners home. At least when I was paying attention it seemed the best distance runners left the state.

I realize this is the men's thread. But the same applies to women. If you want to become good you need to keep the Treniere (Clement) Moser's of the world at home.

No small part of the problem is due to the previous administration, a coach who limited his concerns to the sprinters and at one point threw all the distance runners off the team.

Hartfield, a senior from Manchester, Conn., heads into the long jump competition on Thursday with the nation?s third-longest leap this season. His jump of 26 feet, 9 inches on March 30 broke Jesse Owens? OSU outdoor record that had stood for 77 years.

When you think of the difference in equipment - my god, they didn't even have starting blocks through most of Jesse's career-, running surfaces - cinders versus "tuned" Astro-turf, nutrition and conditioning, you begin to see that Jesse was The athlete of the 20th century. His records, and the length of time it took to surpass them, are possibly one of the most under told stories in the history of all athletics.

Major props to Nick Gray who won both the 100 and 200-meters yesterday at the Big Ten championship:bow:
Gray, from Pickerington, Ohio, was the star of the championships on the track, scoring 20 points for the Buckeyes with his gold-medal winning sprints. He opened in the 100, crossing the finish line in a time of 10.49, and defended his indoor 200-meter crown with a winning outdoor time of 20.54, just shy of his personal-best time of 20.51.

Cross country racing can be dangerous.....watch out for that deer.....OUCH!!!

Renegade deer completely wrecks poor dude during cross country race

Who says cross country isn't a contact sport?

Someone can be heard yelling, "Watch out for the deer!" just seconds before DeLuzio is clotheslined and knocked to the ground.

"Oh shit," says one runner who continues with the race after witnessing the poor kid getting blasted off his feet.

For the track geeks, remember Chris Nelloms

Fastest 110-meter Hurdles: 13.30 (FAT Record)
There is one faster time than Chris Nelloms' 13:30 in the 110-meter hurdles. But it was recorded manually, while the Dunbar (Dayton) sprinter holds the Fully Automatic Timing record.

Below, Nelloms (Lane 4) runs in the 1989 Ohio State Championship in the 400 meters.

The 1974 USA champion in the 1,500m run, Tom Byers lettered for the track and field team at Ohio State from 1973-76. Byers, a stellar mid-distance athlete, owns a plethora of top marks in Ohio State history.

A three-time indoor All-American in the 1,000-yard run, Byers still owns the school record in the 1,500m run with a readout of 3:37.50 that he ran inside Ohio Stadium in 1974. Later that year in the mile, Byers clocked a time of 4:00.10 to set the school record at that time in the event. After his years of competing for the Scarlet and Gray, Byers was a commonplace in meets hosted by Ohio State. In 1978, he returned to French Field House and set the 1,500m facility record with a time of 3:44.00. Over five years later in 1983, the star-studded athlete returned to Ohio Stadium and set the facility record in the mile with a time of 3:57.15.

Byers was a three-time Big Ten indoor champion in the 1,000 yard run, sweeping the title in three straight years from 1974-76. In 1974, his winning time of 2:06.60 in the event set the Big Ten record and it will never be challenged after being retired.

1974 was an unforgettable year for the sophomore in Columbus as he was an indoor All-American and Big Ten indoor champion, but arguably his biggest accomplishments came on the national stage that year. Byers swept titles in the 800m and 1,500m run at the USA Junior Championships and later that summer he was the USA Outdoor champion in the 1,500m run. His time of 3:42.8 he clocked at the junior national meet that summer is still a meet record.

Eleven-time All-American, 10-time Big Ten champion, and two-time national champion Christina Manning was a four-year letterwinner for the Ohio State track and field team from 2008-12. A native of Waldorf, Md., Manning still owns the ninth-fastest 60m hurdle time (7.91) and 10th-fastest 100m hurdle time (12.68) in NCAA history.

Manning holds the school records in four separate events: the 60m dash (7.23), 60m hurdles (7.91), 100m hurdles (12.68) and the 4x100m relay (43.70). The four-time Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year also still owns Big Ten championship meet records in the 60m hurdles with a 7.95 and the aforementioned 43.70 is still the fastest to be run by a relay team at the B1G meet. Manning was an instrumental cog in helping Ohio State collect three team titles at the Big Ten Championships over the course of her career. She was a member of the 2011 indoor, 2011 outdoor and 2012 outdoor conference winning teams, the first three in program history.

The 2012 Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year, Manning went out on top as a senior. She won both of her national titles during her final year on campus. At the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships, she clocked a time of 7.91 to claim gold, and less than three months later, she returned to win the title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 12.89 in the 100m hurdles.

The hurdler was named the 2012 Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year for her accomplishments and was a semifinalist for the Bowerman Award, track and field's most lauded honor. Manning graduated in December of 2012 with a degree in criminology. Manning is in the midst of her track and field career and took bronze at the 2017 Indoor Championships with a time of 8.02 in the 60m hurdles. She also set a personal best of 7.82 in the same event in February of 2017 to move her into No. 8 all-time on the USA list.

OHIO STATE CLAIMS FIRST INDOOR MEN'S TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1993

The drought is over. And it ended in the state of Ohio, no less.

Competing at Geneva, Ohio's SPIRE Institute, the Ohio State men's track & field team captured its first indoor Big Ten title in 25 years Saturday, finishing with 101.50 points ahead of second place Nebraska at 93.50 points.

The title was the program's sixth overall, but first since 1993.

Zack Bazile (long jump), Nick Demaline (shot put) and Cole Gorski (pole vault) captured titles in their individual events Friday to stake the Buckeyes to a 39.5 to 29 lead over Indiana following the first day.

Saturday, the sprinters took over with Ohio State's 4x400 meter relay team of Asa Burke, Drelan Bramwell, Nick Gray and Andre Jeff capturing the gold medal with a time of 3:05.09.

Gray also captured first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.45. It was his third-straight Big Ten title in the event and his time set a school and meet record. Gray also added a third place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.72, just off the 6.68 his teammate and Ohio State football cornerback Kendall Sheffield posted to take the silver in the event.

Alex Lomong placed fourth in the 800 meter run earlier with a time of 1:51.06, helping the Buckeyes pile up team points on a day in which they ran away from the field.

“I’m most proud of these seniors,” director of track and field and cross country Karen Dennis said. “Nick Demaline, Cole Gorski and Zack Bazile are all seniors and they got us off to a great start on Friday. They are the ones who have bought into this program. They have really motivated everyone else.

“And then, I’m proud of the young ones. They really fought to the end. My coaches are amazing. They have put their heart and soul into this profession and they want to see the best for these kids. For all of us to be able to experience a victory like this is really exciting.”

Following the championship, the team took the customary victory lap:
