Ohio State vs. Minnesota @ MSG, Saturday, 12 PM, BTN

I dont know why Minnesota didnt press more - they clearly struggled rebounding the ball, and guarding the paint, so maximizing the influence of their talent at guard would have been the prudent thing to do. Crap coaching by Pitino all around.

Agree. Shocked we didn't see any pressure, especially after the big OSU run when it was evident the gophers weren't going to score enough in the half court to win. Did they not watch the NW/Butler film? As a coach, u need to Muck it up and see if u can win an ugly one. Game got away from Minny early in the 2nd half and the Bucks weren't particularly sharp and did not shoot it well either.

Isn't it nice to critique and still come out victorious by almost 20? Buckeye fans never satisified....lol.

Went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play hoops again
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name
No one recognized me, I didn't look the same.

OHIO STATE USES MONSTER FIRST HALF RUN TO DEFEAT MINNESOTA, 67-49, MOVE TO 8-0 IN THE BIG TEN

Minnesota got its best player back from injury for its game against Ohio State on Saturday, but the return of Amir Coffey wasn't enough to hand the Buckeyes their first conference loss of the year.

The Buckeyes defeated the Golden Gophers, 67-49, on Saturday at Madison Square Garden behind a solid second-half performance from Keita Bates-Diop.

Bates-Diop, who struggled offensively in a win over Northwestern on Wednesday, again struggled to find his shot in the first half, scoring just six points on 3-of-9 shooting. The redshirt junior forward responded in the second half, however, scoring 11 points and grabbing eight boards to lead the Buckeyes down the stretch. Bates-Diop finished with 12 boards, giving him his eighth double-double of the season.

Freshman center Kaleb Wesson also dropped in 15 points and corralled eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action against the Gophers.

After taking a seven-point lead into the halftime locker room, Ohio State doubled the advantage with 13:56 to play in the game, taking a 48-34 lead on a layup from Bates-Diop in the lane.

Shortly after, the Golden Gophers briefly lost star forward Jordan Murphy to an ankle injury, as the dominant post player was taken to the locker room after rolling his ankle underneath the basket with 11:44 to play. From that point, Ohio State opened up a 55-40 lead, before Murphy checked back in with 8:57 to play. However, it was too late for Minnesota. The Buckeye lead extended to as many as 21 points before the clock hit zeroes.

CINDERELLA MEN

90454_h.jpg

There's a scene in the biopic Cinderella Man where heavyweight John Henry Lewis is fighting James J. Braddock for the second time.

Lewis had easily defeated a washed-up Braddock in a 10-round decision a few years earlier, but the rematch - in Madison Square Garden - was not following the same script.

"What are you doing?" His trainer shouts at him in between rounds. "You beat this guy easy last time!"

Lewis catches his breath, and then responds in protest: "He ain't the same guy!"

Braddock defeated Lewis on points that night on his way back from oblivion, which accurately describes Ohio State men's basketball one year ago at this time. The Buckeyes were 3-5 in Big Ten play at this point in 2017 and the prevailing question - in the face of a multi-year slide - was how much longer can this continue?

Ironically, one year later we are asking the exact same question. Only the inflection has changed.

Ohio State's 67-49 win against Minnesota on Saturday at Madison Square Garden was layered, improbable and fascinating. Layered: The Golden Gophers jumped out to a 20-10 lead before the Buckeyes went on a 24-2 stretch before finishing off the game off on a 57-29 run. They were moving the ball just fine in the early going and taking good shots; they just weren't going in.
