Game Thread Ohio State vs Penn State - 11/23/19, 12:00PM (FOX)

Upon Further Review:

PSU played pretty close to their best possible game in all three phases. OSU was much further away from their ceiling.
We lost the turnover battle. Field position had to be about a tie. We dominated nearly every other stat line. That’s a quality 11-point win.

Yeah, it's not like we were playing Maryland or Rutgers. To fuck up that many times and still beat the 8th ranked team in the country by 11 says something.

But the boys better not play like that again this season.

Not being offensively effective on first down isn't an occasional thing. It seems to be a real Achilles' heel. Can't expect to be in second and long a lot and do much against an elite D. Quick hitting passes and some of the mesh routes we saw last year would help a lot IMO. I don't think the stats reflect how bad it's actually been because against overmatched opponents we grind out big first down runs in the second half, but my eye test says it's a problem. Am mildly alarmed at the lack of creativity and flow in play calling of late as well, but maybe some things are being saved for scUM.

What? analysis? Who does that anymore?

Cant really say if he's legit hurt or a bit dinged. Shouldn't have been put in that situation anyway
He should have thrown the ball away long long before he got hit. Who care if you give Olave or Victor a chance double covered on a jump ball there. It's 4th down I can't believe coaches were in his ear the whole time before that play if nothing is there throw it away don't take a hit trying to make a play there.

Holding on to the ball too long has been a problem for Fields all year IMHO

I think you're right on 1st down. Not sure if that can be improved that much at this point. Just seems like Fields struggles with some accuracy in the short passing game.

That's also concerning because it will be needed to beat great teams with a pass rush. I think that and fuckery is why you saw almost nothing after it was 21-17. Fields is struggling to pick up blitzes and can't consistently get the ball out accurately when needed.

It's just a weakness they hopefully have an answer for. I do think it's really weird there were no screens. I assume Day just didn't feel comfortable calling them?
