SKULL SESSION: C.J. BARNETT'S LIFE AS A COP, URBAN MEYER WON'T COACH FLORIDA STATE OR USC, AND THE WOMEN'S HOOPS TEAM DOMINATES

OH.
The Ohio State women's hoops team brought in the No. 3 recruiting class in the country, featuring four five-star top-50 players (including one affectionately nicknamed "SheBron").

They're uh, already doing some stuff.

No, that is not a typo.

It's worth noting that this was an exhibition game, but in case you were wondering, the NCAA single-game scoring record is owned by Long Beach State, which dropped 149 points on San Jose State in 1987.

Ohio State's freshman dropped a combined 90 points, with Jacy Sheldon and Kierstan Bell leading the way with 25 points each and Kaelynn Satterfield adding 22 of her own.

For some context, the Buckeyes have done cruel things to this poor team in the past, but with a senior-laden team led by one of the most prolific scorers in women's basketball history.

This team will be playing together for four seasons, and lord help the Big Ten.

Since McGuff's arrival at Ohio State, the problem with the women's basketball team has never been the fact that they could not put points on the scoreboard but the problem has been that the other team has always been able to put more points on the scoreboard.

Maybe McGuff will fix his defensive philosophy this season but his past coaching does not give me much hope and until he fixes that problem of not coaching defense this program will continue to flounder.

Ohio State women’s basketball transfer Braxtin Miller ruled immediately eligible by NCAA

After playing the waiting game during the preseason, OSU has another difference maker on the roster.

Ohio State women’s basketball opens up their regular season schedule Sunday afternoon, the moment Buckeye hoops fans have been waiting for. And on Friday evening, the NCAA ruled that junior transfer Braxtin Miller (not to be confused with OSU football great Braxton Miller) would be immediately eligible following the approval of her transfer waiver.

Miller, the junior guard from Dayton, Ohio, announced her plans to return to her home state in April after playing two seasons at Oklahoma State where she earned a spot on last year’s preseason All-Big 12 team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: OHIO STATE BESTS VALPARAISO 89-38 IN SEASON-OPENER

WomensBasketball_06-2i4da38-530x354.jpg

It was quite literally a “lights out” game for Ohio State women’s basketball in its season debut, as it defeated Valparaiso 89-38, despite the lights briefly going out in the arena mid-third quarter.

Hosted by Wittenberg University, the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame season-opener for Ohio State (1-0) showcased its new team against Valparaiso (0-1).

Sophomore forward Dorka Juhász scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Following behind Juhász was sophomore guard Janai Crooms and freshman guard Jacy Sheldon, who both had 12 points.

Junior guard Addison Stoller led Valparaiso with 11 points.

Valparaiso played Ohio State close early, trailing just 13-11 with less than a minute to play in the first quarter, but the Buckeyes used an extended 16-4 run to take control of the game in the second.

That wasn’t Ohio State’s best run of the game, however — a 23-0 Ohio State run in the third quarter took the lead from comfortable at 42-24 to overwhelming at 65-24.

The Buckeyes continued their fast-paced style to score 12 points on fast breaks. Ohio State had 11 steals and four blocks on the day and out-rebounded the Crusaders 38-22.

Junior transfer guard Braxtin Miller, who was granted a waiver by the NCAA to play for Ohio State Friday, got the start for the Buckeyes, and shot 2-for-5 in 20 minutes of action.

Freshman forward Rebeka Mikilášiková made her Buckeye debut and knocked down 4-of-6 shots to add eight points to the Ohio State cause.

Five-star recruit and freshman guard Kierstan Bell was the fourth Buckeye to score in double figures, scoring 10 points as she knocked down two 3-pointers in the game.

Ohio State will continue on the road playing again on Wednesday Nov. 13 at Cincinnati with a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Got my first look at the ladies today and was impressed.

Stayed with UCONN through 3 quarters.

They play one upper-classman and will only get better.
I hope you are right and this season is not like seasons in the past under McGuff. It seems like he really does not do a whole lot of coaching and just lets the Buckeye ladies run willy-nilly up and down the floor. He is a hell of a recruiter but I am not sure about his coaching. Hope he proves me wrong sometime.
