Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Other than Bo getting stuck (which was counteracted by his younger bro getting the pin over Kemerrer), what an incredible round. NaTo getting revenge was huge and with Suriano out, he should beat Lizak to win the tourney. Pletcher has done Pletcher things as expected but huge rematch against Micic...really hope he beats him this time, should get him the #2 or #3 seed at nationals. McKenna is a man on a mission right now, love how he is wrestling...if he beats Carr, he could go as high as the #2 seed imo. Hayes did a good job only giving up the major, needs to come back and take 3rd. Mic is our MVP of the tourney regardless of what he does in the finals...unreal upset pinning Kemerrer and that could be the defining match of the tournament. That being said, really want to see Mic get even with Pantaleo this time around. If Mic wins it, I think he could get seeded in the top 3, which would be huge to stay off Nolf's side of the bracket. Campbell is just not doing well right now and I don't even see him winning a match in Cleveland...is it too late to put Burcher back at 165? Bo getting pinned is a killer...Amine will pass him in seeding now and I am being serious in saying that he could fall all the way to #8 even if he comes back to take 3rd...and he isn't going to be any higher than 6th. MyMar is having a killer tourney and really hope he knocks off Nickal in the finals. Kollin has had some close matches and I am not sure why he is shutting down on his offense lately...really hope he beat Rasheed in the finals. And good work from Snyder, needs to get revenge in the finals.

Standing at 145.5 to 133 for PSU. Predictions for the finals and the matches where OSU is going for 3rd:

125 - Nate over Lizak by MD
133 - Micic over Pletcher by DEC
141 - McKenna over Carr by DEC
149 - Zane over Sorrenson by MD | Hayes wins 3rd by DEC
157 - Micah over Panteleo by DEC
165 - Imar over Joseph by DEC
174 - Hall over Amine by MD | Jordan wins 3rd by DEC
184 - Nickal over Martin by DEC
197 - Moore over Rasheed by DEC
285 - Snyder over Coon by DEC

OSU odds to win in order of confidence level... 125, 174, 141, 149, 197, 285, 157, 133, 184

I think OSU wins the tourney with 158 points with PSU somewhere around 150. But if Zane and Hall get falls it will be very tight

Man, that was awesome. It looked like Coon was twice the size of Snyder.

I have watched wrestling for awhile and I never want to make excuses in any format...but Coon is so much bigger than Snyder to the point that it is almost comical. Snyder winning is just unbelievable. Great tournnament and please repeat that in a couple weeks. I would love to have a party in Cleveland soon.

Awesome win. I don't follow wrestling all that closely, but I thought the pedsters were supposed to be some Iowa-In-The-80s kind of unstoppable force. Do the Buckeyes have a solid shot at the NC?

They are that good, but so are we. Most analysts are in agreement that whoever takes second at NCAA's will be the best runner-up in the history of college wrestling. Both teams are as stacked as any team I have seen. However, beating them in the B1G's was not an upset in my books and we have a solid shot to beat them again at the NCAA's if we wrestle like that again. We will have every weight qualify and we should have a legit shot for 9 of the 10 place and be All-Americans (I don't think Campbell is going to get it done at 165 with the way he is wrestling). If Campbell could win 2-3 matches somehow, that would go a long way. PSU likely will only qualify 9 unless Kuhn somehow gets an at-large bid at 125. And I don't see their 133 winning more than 2-3 matches. The biggest threat for us is PSU's bonus point count...they tend to rack up the bonus points and that makes up a lot of ground. We are deeper across the roster, but we need to get bonus early from our top guys. The other really big wildcard is Nolf for PSU at 157...he took a medical forfeit in the semi's at the B1G and I don't think he is 100%. Nolf at 80% can probably still win it but if he is out at any point in the tourney with an injury, that would likely mean we win it. That being said, I hope he is 100% and it is decided with both teams at full health. Should be an incredible tourney.

Some finals observations.
125 - Nato coming back from a 2-5 deficit was great. When he chose to go under in the 2nd I thought that was a serious tactical mistake but it turned out to be the right call. 4x B1G champ is epic. I think Nate is a solid 2 seed and gets Soriano
133 - Pletcher seems to struggle with Micic's leg attacks. He showed something late in the match and I'd like to see that same effort in two weeks - just a lot sooner in the matches. If he gets the 3/4 seed he is looking at Micic again in the semis
141 - McKenna is really peaking right now. He looked great against Carr. You have to consider him a 2/3 seed at this point and he can beat any one of the guys at this weight and be on top of the podium
149 - Hayes looked solid in all his matches. Would have liked to have seen him shoot a few times against Zane. He probably ends up with a 5/6 seed. His ceiling is probably 3 at NCAA and for that to happen he needs more offense
157 - M. Jordan wrestled some of his best minutes this weekend. The Pantaleo matchup is tough for him. I think Micah will be fighting for AA this year because it's a solid weight class. Looking at a 6 seed
165 - Came back and won two straight matches at the end. Other than that he looks lost out there and I do not expect him to score any points. I think he needs a full off-season to get his head straight and get the weight issues under control. Unseeded and probably wrestling a top 8 guy right off the bat
174 - B. Jordan gutted his way through the weekend. He is nowhere near 100%. His offense has disappeared and he will get a lower than expected seed. On any given day he can win against elite wrestlers and he could lose as well. I think a 6/7 seed is where he lands
184 - M.Martin wrestled well. Nickal is just that good. I came to the realization that if Nickal wanted to ride Martin he could pile up 5 min of riding time because Martin seems to know that the cradle is always there and goes defensive. I expect those two to meet again at NCAA. Solid 2 seed
197 - K. Moore looked solid and had a great strategy against Rasheed. He wanted no part of the cradle and he is just better than Rasheed on his feet. I expect Moore to be in the finals. He deserves the 1 seed but he can beat anyone so it doesn't really matter where he ends up
285 - What can you say? Amazing match, probably a repeat at NCAA. Locks the 1 seed

Hoping that one of the wrestling gurus can help me out here.. I am concerned about Snyder going against Coon at the NCAA''s. I just do not understand how Kyle will be able to score points on Coon unless he can get to his lower leg which he has been able to do in the prior two matches.: Coon is just too big for Kyle to score in any other manner and I am sure that Coon will be on the lookout for any type of shot at his lower legs which could eventually hurt Kyle. I was wondering if any of you guys have any idea how Kyle might attack him at the NCAA because I have no idea. Coon is just so large I just do not see how Kyle will be able to take him down as I do know that Kyle is very experienced.

Snyder found success in not allowing himself to be tied up for long periods, limiting his shots till later in the match and by going for the ankle. You are right, Coon's legs are too much to take on. It's David vs Goliath. Get to the ankle and you saw the result.

I am not the expert. I leave that type of commentary to Delaware and RB. However I did note that in the interview after the match Kyle gave credit to Coon for working on his leg defense since they met. At this point it is what it is. Kyle needs to get to the leg and dead lift. Coon needs to use his weight on top of Kyle. I don't think there is a secret sauce that will be discovered in the next two weeks.
