Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Brutal. If my math is right, we're only going to qualify 5 total wrestlers for NCAAs unless we get at large bids (Heinselmann, Sasso, Smith, Romero and Orndorff). Pretty sure you can bank that none of DeCatur, D'Emilio, Cleary, or Hoffman are getting an at large after not placing. Rocky may get one with some quality wins in the past, but I wouldn't think that happens though. If you would have told me we'd only qualify 5 wrestlers for NCAAs at the beginning of the year, I would have thought you were crazy.

Sasso wins convincingly, great tourney for him. Smith was right there with Marinelli, he looks good. The rest... I'll just not say anything. Hope Sasso can get a title and we see Smith on the podium as well at the NCAAs. Probably the best we can hope for now, but Romero and Heinselmann could get there if the cards fall right.

Smith wrestled a great match considering his "limitations". By that I mean once the 3rd started and the scrambling was over and a rideout was needed he was dead meat. Romero died the same way against Starocci on Saturday. I know I've said this before but all the freestyle training in the summer isn't really helping in the NCAA.

Ended up qualifying 7 total, D'Emilio just snuck in at the 30 seed and Rocky at 24. Heinselmann was seeded 10 but I actually really like his draw, he could make a run with a good performance... perhaps up the semis or finals, though I think semis is the cap. Sasso got the 1 seed and I think he goes all the way to a title. Smith got the 7 seed and a bit of a tougher draw than I think he deserved with how well he's wrestled this season. Romero also got a 7 seed but probably the best draw of any wrestler we have...hoping he matches up with Idaho native star Demetrius Romero in the quarters, who he could beat with a good match. Rocky actually didn't get a bad draw and could get to quarters in my eyes, though it's unlikely. Orndorff I just hope can win a match or two.

Not bad considering the circumstances and no matter what, the tourney is always fun to watch!
