Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Snyder wins another World Championship gold yesterday and the US won more medals than any nation in a dominating performance from our American wrestlers. This is the pinnacle of US wrestling in my lifetime we have an amazing team. David Taylor won his second gold at World's defeating his rival Yazdani from Iran and crushed him 7-1, Yazdani is widely considered the top pound for pound wrestler in the world. Dake also won gold for us, Cox took silver, Yianni took silver and Gross just missed a medal dropping in his bronze medal match. I think that covers it, but what a huge week for US wrestling.

Ohio State wrestling lands commitment from Brock Herman, Top 20 145 lbs. prospect flips from NC State

Ohio State wrestling landed a big commitment Tuesday night in the Class of 2023. Brock Herman, originally an NC State commit, flipped to the Buckeyes in a decision that has him staying closer to home. Herman is currently a senior, hailing from Brecksville (Ohio) and wrestles for the Seasons Freestyle Club. He released a statement on social media announcing his decision.

Looks like Coach Ryan is already planning for Sammy Sasso's replacement, although Gavin Brown may also contend at 149. Also smart of Coach to "get in the door" at h.s. powerhouse Brecksville. Acc. to Flo Wrestling Brock Herman is ranked 8th at 145 for this coming season and is #29 on the overall class of '23.

Back when I wrestled in HS, Brecksville was always super tough. I remember them being extremely good on top, or at least it seemed really tough to get out from the bottom with them (granted that was about 15 years ago). In any event, seems like a nice pickup and I don't think Mendez ends up all the way at 149 by next year, so we do need a succession plan to Sasso. Same may go for 125 unless Gonzales can stay down there (he's listed as 125/133 on the official site roster).

Speaking of the roster, seems like the wrestle offs and open lineup spaces won't have much suspense. You'll have Malik (125), Sasso (149), Gallagher (157), Smith/Kharchla (165/174, not sure which goes where), Romero (184), and Hoffman (197). 141 is probably D'Emilio, but Mendez could go up to that weight and take the spot potentially and Decatur is there too). 133 is going to be an interesting battle with Bouzakis and Mendez likely fighting for that spot, two of the highest rated recruits coming in as a frosh this year. Then at HWT, I suspect Tater will be the guy in his final year to give Feldman a development year to get a little bigger and wrestle in some opens. That said, if the staff senses they can possibly make a run at a title and Feldman is markedly better than Tater, the RS could get pulled...I think Feldman will probably beat Tater but it might be best to give Feldman a year to grow, though I selfishly want to see him right away because he is way more fun to watch at that weight. Definitely nice to have so many veterans cemented into the lineup though, lots of familiar faces back.

Acc. to Bucknuts board several recruiting visits this last weekend were top 50 middle weight and Greco world champion Joel Adams and cadet Fargo national champion Bekhruz Sandriddinov (class of '24 from Pa, goes around 155-160#). Adams goes 135-140# and went to h.s.in Nebraska (grad. this past June).

Wrestle offs announced, here are my highlights:

125: MH and Gonzales likely fight for the spot, could be close.
133: Looks like Mendez only, I guess Bouzakis might be hurt then?
141: D'Emilio or Decatur, probably D'Emilio
149: No match.
157: Wilcox vs Gallagher, would love to watch that one, think Gallagher will get it somewhat comfortably though (like 5-2 or something)
165: Likely Kharchla vs Heppner, Kharchla probably wins easy but still would like to see that match too.
174: There's a match but Ethan Smith will win by a lot.
184: See 174, it'll be Romero.
197: Hoffman will beat either Shumate or Stein.
HWT: Looks like Feldman will get to go at Tater... match of the wrestle offs imo. This is the headliner.

Wrestle offs announced, here are my highlights:

125: MH and Gonzales likely fight for the spot, could be close. Good call...Malik won 3-2
133: Looks like Mendez only, I guess Bouzakis might be hurt then? Mendez lived up to the hype with a 30 sec. pin Bouzakis is redshirting.
141: D'Emilio or Decatur, probably D'Emilio missed this one. Decatur with a buzzer beater take down to win 6-4
149: No match.
157: Wilcox vs Gallagher, would love to watch that one, think Gallagher will get it somewhat comfortably though (like 5-2 or something) Paddy looked pretty good
165: Likely Kharchla vs Heppner, Kharchla probably wins easy but still would like to see that match too. Kharcha was off..probably cut too much weight and Heppner rode him out for the dec.
174: There's a match but Ethan Smith will win by a lot. Exactly.
184: See 174, it'll be Romero. Exactly.
197: Hoffman will beat either Shumate or Stein. Shumate stayed with him for half the match but he isn't ready yet.
HWT: Looks like Feldman will get to go at Tater... match of the wrestle offs imo. This is the headliner.
Feldman will only wrestle unattached this year...Tater will be the man one more season. He put on an additional 40 lbs this offseason but it's not fat. He looks like he means business.
