Reigning 133-pound national champion Logan Stieber of Ohio State will defend his individual title in a tournament final at the NCAA championships today in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Stieber will face Tony Ramos of Iowa at 8 p.m. Stieber and Ramos will face one another for the fifth time in their collegiate careers. Stieber is 4-0 all time against Ramos.

The top seed, Stieber secured an 18-2 technical fall win against A.J. Schopp of Edinboro in a semifinal match yesterday while second-seeded Ramos earned a 6-4 decision over Tyler Graff of Wisconsin.. Logan’s brother Hunter Stieber (141) lost a 7-6 decision to Mitchell Port of Edinboro in another semifinal.

Fellow Buckeyes Josh Demas (157) and Nick Heflin (174) were ousted in the quarterfinal round. Thanks to their performances, both Hunter Stieber and Heflin repeated as All-Americans.

Ohio State is in seventh place in the team standings. With 46 points, the Buckeyes are well behind leader Penn State (114.5).

Ohio State sophomore Logan Stieber defeated Tony Ramos of Iowa 7-4 last night in the 133-pound final to win his second straight NCAA wrestling championship.

The match was a rematch of 2012 semifinal, which Stieber won 33-4. Stieber then defeated Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State 28-2 in the final.

Stieber’s brother, Hunter, finished third at 141 pounds with a 12-4 decision over Undrakhb Khishignyam of The Citadel. The Buckeyes’ Nick Heflin finished fifth at 174 pounds after pinning Michael Evans at 2:10 of their bout.

Penn State clinched its third consecutive team title.

Methinks there are some typos in there.

The actual scores were 4-2 & 4-3, I'm guessing the bolded numbers were Ramos & Oliver's records.

He's only a Jr. and a class of '14 recruit. He is still on track to be at OSU for the fall of 2014. The Olympic Center thing will almost serve as an "unofficial" redshirt year while technically still in HS.

Thanks, I'm not sure how I missed that Snyder was a junior. I guess I just assumed with how dominant he is that he was a senior. In that case, this will be awesome for his development.

Yeah, he's dominated 220 nationally. There has been no one even close to him at that weight for two years. He completely owned the kid that PSU signed in his weight. He also has nothing to prove at the HS folkstyle level and his goal has always been the Olympics. So this is a good move.

USA vs. Iran dual on NBC Sports right now...we are getting rocked BUT this is great for wrestling. Hopefully it gets tons of attention though and the sport gains more appeal heading into the IOC's recommendation phase. Side note...Dake is SOOO nasty. Destroyed a 3 point move starting from a single in the 2nd period tie breaker to win his international debut match. Kid is going to be a star.

I think down the road, guys like David Taylor and Dake, who are actually really good at freestyle wrestling (not just folk like most US guys) will carry the US to new heights. That is if we can save the sport!

There were two Buckeyes who participated:

60 kg/132 lbs. - Masoud Esmailpour Joybari (Iran) dec. Reece Humphrey (USA), 1-0, 6-0
96 kg/211.5 lbs. - Hamed Tatari (Iran) dec. J.D. Bergman (USA), 3-1, 1-0

The follow on match vs Russia is a complete 180 (USA up 5-0). Logan Stieber with a HUGE win.

USA dominates Russia, 8-1 in dual with three styles at Grand Central Terminal in New York
It was a great night for Team USA, which won eight of nine matches against Russia in a dual meet with all three Olympic styles held in historic Grand Central Terminal. The event was broadcast live on Universal Sports and streamed on TeamUSA.org

The match was part of The Rumble On The Rails, an event which featured the USA, Russia and Iran. Earlier in the evening, Iran defeated the USA, 6-1 in a men's freestyle dual in the same venue.

The USA men's freestyle team got things rolling by sweeping all five of their matches.

.../snip/...
Three-time European champion Opan Sat and Junior World silver medalist Logan Stieber locked up at 60 kg/132 lbs. Steiber came out strong in the first period, leading 3-0, but Sat rallied with some wide-open offense to win that period 7-5. The second period was all Stieber, with two three-point throws for a 6-0 technical fall. The third period was scoreless and went to the clinch. Stieber won the ball draw but Sat was able to counter effectively. In a wild scramble, which was challenged by the Russians, Stieber got three points on a crotch lift for the win.
