Ohio State's Kyle Snyder won his gold medal match against reigning World champion Abdusalam Gadisov of Russia, 5-5 (prevailing by criteria), and has a chance to repeat the feat in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. His victory is record-setting, as the 19-year-old grappler became the youngest World Champion in USA Wrestling history.

Congratulations Mr. Snyder! What a helluva day to do it on too!

*What does "by criteria" mean?

Re: In case of tie by points, the winner will be declared by successively considering:
- the highest value of holds;
- the least amount of cautions;
- the last technical point(s) scored

Snyder Stuns Gadisov for 97kg Crown at Wrestling World Championships

Kyle SNYDER (USA) snapped up a late takedown and held on for a 5-5 win on criteria Friday evening to claim the freestyle 97kg crown at the Senior Wrestling World Championships.

Snyder, the 2013 junior world champion, snagged the foot of defending champion Abdusalam GADISOV (RUS) for a 5-4 lead with 30 seconds remaining in the day’s finale at The Orleans Arena.

He then shrugged off a penalty for fleeing to win by having scored two 2-point techniques to Gadisov’s one.

Kyle Snyder needs his own thread, think he has earned that in the last year, great job and can't wait to see him the next few years!

Second this. Unbelieveable feat and Snyder has now officially hit superstar status if he had not already. If he can repeat at the Olympics, it would just be incredible. Just blows my mind that he accomplished this at age 19 and it was such an exciting much to watch with a ton of action. That Olympic redshirt has already been justified with this victory. And that last low single was just absolutely SICK. Congrats to Kyle, way to represent your country and the Buckeyes!

WRESTLING: OHIO STATE'S NATHAN TOMASELLO TO APPEAR AT 50TH NWCA ALL-STAR CLASSIC

61052_h.jpg,qitok=TuB36m2U.pagespeed.ce.6XFcvN041Y.jpg

Nathan Tomasello may be feeling a sense of déjà vu as he takes the mat for the first unofficial match of the 2015-16 wrestling season. Tomasello will face familiar foe and NCAA Finals opponent Zeke Moisey in the NWCA All-Star Classic taking place on November 1st, renewing a rivalry dating back to high school.

Though technically an exhibition that doesn’t count towards a wrestler’s official record, it is quite an honor to be selected to wrestle at the NWCA All-Star Classic event, which will celebrate it’s 50th anniversary this season.

Tomasello and Moisey met three times last season, with Tomasello winning each, though by increasingly closer scores. Tomasello also faced Moisey (and defeated him) in the semifinals of the 2011 Walsh Ironman tournament in high school.

Tomasello will look to pick up the tenth victory for Ohio State in the event out of 20 attempts. Most recently, Logan Stieber bumped up a weight to defeat defending NCAA champion Kendric Maple at 149 lbs in 2013. Stieber was to take on eventual NCAA finalist Mitchell Port of Edinboro at the 2014 All-Star Classic, but the Buckeye scratched from the event following weigh-ins.
