"I kind of smelled blood a little bit. I ran as hard as I could and put all my energy into (the takedown)."

In the final match of the regular season, the Ohio State Buckeyes wrestling team recorded a tremendous victory over Wisconsin at home on senior night, bouncing back from a tough loss to top-ranked Penn State. The No. 9 Buckeyes earned their 10th win of the season with eight individual victories out of ten matchups on the night. Prior to the match, the team paid homage to former Buckeye wrestler and two-time NCAA champion Kevin Randleman, who passed away last week.

Despite a loss in the first matchup by redshirt sophomore Bo Jordan at the 174-pound class, the Buckeyes rallied to win their next seven matches. Senior Johnni DiJulius--one of nine seniors on the squad--earned his 111th victory at Ohio State on senior day. Sophomore Kyle Snyder recorded another dominant win in the heavyweight class in his truncated season, having returned to Ohio State last month from training for the Olympic trials. Senior Kenny Courts won the 184-pound weight class, and redshirt freshman Jake Ryan capped off the night by scoring a fall against his opponent.

Ohio State will face Edinboro next week in Columbus in the NWCA National Dual Series before heading to Iowa City for the Big Ten tournament in March.

"Miller had a storied two-year run at quarterback where he was able to produce explosive, winning plays for the Buckeyes...but the difference between being a gadget player and a productive receiver will rest with his ability to digest coaching and convert it on the field."

-Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

Despite a meager 5.4 score on his NFL scouting report, former Ohio State quarterback-turned-receiver Braxton Miller could be a boom-or-bust player in the 2016 NFL Draft this spring. While some analysts have Miller going in the first round purely based on his athletic ability, others are projecting him to go in later rounds due to his inexperience at the receiver position. With limited touches during his senior season (25 receptions for 340 yards), scouts have noted that Miller relies more on his athletic ability than position skill in order to make plays at receiver.

In coming back for his redshirt senior season in 2015, Miller became part of the winningest senior class in college football history at 50 wins. A two-time Big Ten MVP at quarterback, Miller moved to wide receiver prior to the 2015 season as a result of multiple shoulder surgeries. Despite having just one year of experience at the position, Miller has shown that his natural athleticism, size and speed warrant a shot at the next level. With a strong showing at the Senior Bowl in January, Miller upped his draft stock by showing how his strengths would translate to strong playmaking ability in the NFL, turning the heads of scouts in the process.

Miller’s scouting report made mention of his good hands, great timing and even better concentration--all intangible skills for receivers at the next level. Combined with his "loose hips for jitterbug elusiveness," Miller would be able to fill an interesting role at the next level similar to Julian Edelman or Randall Cobb.

It was a busy weekend for both the Ohio State men’s and women’s tennis teams, but both emerged victorious in matchups with ranked opponents. The No. 6 women’s team opened up the weekend with a 4-2 victory over No. 5 Vanderbilt at home Saturday, just a week after defeating Vanderbilt in the women’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships. After winning the doubles point, the Buckeyes split singles matches, ultimately clinching a third match for the win. The team then went on to defeat No. 24 Georgia Tech Sunday in Columbus by a score of 6-1. Having won the doubles point in three matches, Ohio State notched wins in five of six singles matches, led by Big Ten player of the week Francesca Di Lorenzo. The women’s team is scheduled to play Tennessee this weekend in Columbus.

Meanwhile, the No. 8 men’s squad swept No. 4 Baylor Friday with a 4-0 victory in the first round of the men’s ITA Indoor Team Championships, winning all six singles matches and securing the doubles point in three matches. The men’s squad then went on to defeat No. 3 Texas A&M 4-3 Sunday, bouncing back from their first loss of the season against No. 7 North Carolina Saturday. Despite dropping both doubles matches to Texas A&M, the Buckeyes bounced back in singles, winning four of six matches on the day. The men’s team will face off against Texas A&M once again this Friday at home.

"We have two really tough games coming up, and I think it’s really important that we put up a lot of goals today. We showed that we can play with the big teams and we’re ready to be in the top 20."

The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s lacrosse team opened up their 2016 run Saturday with a 22-8 win over Detroit in Columbus. Sophomore midfielder Molly Wood led the team in scoring, racking up five goals on the day, all in the first half of play. Wood also led the Buckeyes with 11 draw controls. After starting most games her freshman season, and finishing fourth on the team in scoring, Wood is expected to step up in her sophomore campaign and be a more versatile player from the midfield.

The game was never in doubt for the No. 18 Buckeyes, with three different players scoring goals in the opening minutes to go up 3-0.

Senior attackman Rainey Hodgson, who was named a Big Ten player to watch earlier this month, added two goals and four assists to the team’s total. In all, 14 different players scored for Ohio State, owing to the highly-efficient attack scheme that involved many different players. Despite a strong attack which helped to carry the team, there is work to do on defense as the Buckeyes move forward in the season.

The Buckeyes were keen to start off the season well after a 13-8 run in 2015 that ended in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season, but also resulted in the loss of 11 seniors to graduation, including the top-three goalscorers from last season and the Buckeyes’ all-time leader in draw controls. The squad is scheduled to play Cal in Berkeley next week before heading to Palo Alto to face Stanford.
