I stumbled/fell down Jeff Hill when I was about 16. Sibs weekend :wink2:

Still like to get back to Athens from time to time, but am glad I chose OSU instead. Great little town, nice to get away from the big city, enjoy the parties, but I could never live there year-round.

Since it seems like some of the info here is a bit antiquated and some of you have asked if certain establishments still exist, I can make a quick update.

Zachary's Deli/Bar is now a hole/whore of a t-shirt store.

The Greenery is now a jazz/music bar named the Blue Gator where they have acts perform just about everyday of the week. It is no longer the pisshole dance club it used to be and used to be referred to as "the cheese" due to its cheese-like coating of goo on the floor at the end of the night.

The Burrito Buggy is still going strong and smells like B.O. more than ever.

Unfortunately you can no longer drive up Jeff Hill as it has been closed off to driving traffic. It used to be like a small rollercoaster getting up that thing.
But for you brawlers and stumblers...it's still open season.

I used to DJ at the Greenery back in the 80's. WOuld play requests for shots. Ed, the owner, was the biggest racist I have ever met. I'd be playin dance music and he would walk up to the DJ booth and say "it's getting awful dark in here.... play some skynard." Nothing like listening to the boss and clearing the dance floor. When they closed, I Would jump behind the bar and take unopened bottles if booze and put them outside the back door, by the restrooms upstairs.

When I Left, I would drive back there and take the bottles home. I swear our bar in the apartments was so stocked we routinely held cocktail hour after classes...but before dinner.

During the same time, my girlfriend (now wife) worked at a drive thru right near the Athens Station Apartments. I'd go through and order a carton of smokes and a case a beer, and she would ring me up for a pack of gum....AND give me change.

God, I Miss those days.
