Football Announces Scheduling Agreements with Ohio State, Missouri

Bobcats return to Ohio Stadium in 2008

Nov. 7, 2005
ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio Athletics Department has announced future football dates with the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Missouri Tigers. The Bobcats will visit Ohio State during the 2008 season, while a meeting with Missouri helps round out the non-conference slate for next season.

Ohio last visited the Buckeyes in 1999, and the 2008 contest will mark the sixth time Ohio and OSU have met on the gridiron. The date of the future meeting is set for Sept. 6, 2008.

Quick question regarding the name(s) of the two universities.

Now, i've heard from a few random sources/people...nothing concrete though...that their was some dispute between the two schools regarding the names of the universities. Something along the lines of OU claiming it was the official STATE university of Ohio. Has Ohio State always gone by THE Ohio State University or was it later changed to add "the"

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but its the only thread i've found at this time regarding the two schools.

We used to be an A & M school. According to wikipedia, we were called Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. We were founded in 1870 and OU was founded in 1804.

OU sued OSU over the use of OHIO. Cheerleader's outfits that used Ohio instead of Ohio State were a big part of the issue as well as the scoreboard which often read Ohio...

It was a pissy, little brother, "Mom, he's picking on me," thing to do.

Be glad I ansered before Ord gets wound up, but he knows the full story.

Actually it was Ohio State that sued Ohio.

And it's not OU, it's Ohio :wink2:.Oklahoma has a problem with Ohio using OU. The dispute was not really a naming dispute. It was just Ohio University securing it's name so it can make money off of selling merchandise. Ohio State realized if the trademark was enforced strictly it would endanger alot of names and traditions so they filed suit. In the end Ohio got it's trademark and Ohio State got to protect its traditions.

Ohio fans have been so annoying.

"We beat Illinois last year!" Yeah, okay, so did we...

"Frank Solich is a god!" Yeah, he is a good coach, who is turning around the program. I'll give you that.

"Solich will beat Tressel!" No...
