OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

...A 'slight' attitude adjustment, a Summer of simple reminders of the privilage that it is to be a Buckeye Football Player, and some extra conditioning for our mammoth & insanely athletic, 6'8" 310 lb left tackle...yeah, this could turn out to be a nice silver lining to this particular cloud (Boone's DUI).

Glad to hear he's done what he needed to do...now keep it up and go get lots of 'pancakes' this year!

Good for Boone. I hope he takes advantage of his second chance and doesn't make the same mistake again. If he walks the straight and narrow he'll be a first round draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, so that should really be enough motivation for him.

Good goin', Alex. Can't wait to see you on the field!!
Keep up the good work.

I do not go to BN very often, but there seems to be a pretty credible poster who thinks that Rehring is a better Tackle then Boone but they will have Rehring at Guard so Datish can play center. I am not sure I follow that logic because I think if Rhering was a better tackle wouldn't they keep him there and have Alex move to guard?

I believe it was osualum82 so there is some credibility there. Maybe Steve has a little more versatility? Allowing him to play guard and Alex to stay at tackle might provide the best possible combination on the left side. Think of a scale of 1 - 5 with 5 being the highest. Alex could be a 4 at LT and Steve a 4 at LG giving you a score of 8. If Steve is a 5 at LT, maybe Alex is only a 2 at LG. I'm just making up numbers here as an example of how the team will be better off with that line combination, even though Steve may be the better LT right now.

I fully agree with that. You get your best 5 on the field. However LT is soooo important that I think you have you best LT there no matter the situation.

BTW it is so nice having options on the O-Line. It was not so long ago we could barley name 5 players capable fo playing...lol

Maybe, but I'm looking at it from the old saying that the team is only as strong as it's weakest link. Can Alex play guard? I don't know. Can Steve? He's been practicing there for a while from what I understand.

OSUalum82 has some good insights..but FWIW..he also had Todd Boeckman starting the season last year ahead of JZ, claimed that EH is the best RB and was hyping up Shaun Lane bigtime at the DB spot before he found himself as 4th string RB..
