OL Kyle Dodson (Official Thread)

He didn't have the necessary test score. I believe he was told up front that he needed a better score to get an offer.
if i were dodson and i hadn't just received the test score, then the last-second offer would be an insult. if you're going to withhold an offer due to an insufficient test score, don't send an offer simply upon hearing that the player is about to commit elsewhere.

in this regard, maybe fickell's scholarship offer philosophy differs from tressel's. or maybe it was a coincidence that dodson received the test score immediately before he decided to commit.

if rumors are true that osu wasn't even dodson's second choice, then the timing of his commitment after the buckeye offer makes complete sense to me.

So how was Wisconsin able to offer him more quickly than Ohio State? Wouldn't he need roughly the same ACT score to get an offer from them? It's not we were competing with an SEC school where bubbling in your name on the test correctly and getting a 10 on the ACT is sufficient to receive an offer...

One school's sufficient score is not necessarily equal to another school's. Also, most schools will offer a top prospect with the hope that he qualifies.

It makes no sense. Looks like he was probably just waiting for an OSU offer so he can say shove it up yours to the OSU staff.

That is what it seems but where the [censored] did Wisconsin come from?

I thought he was in the bag for you guys with Michigan trailing in 2nd. Shocker indeed. However, signing day isn't until Feb. I'm sure OSU will still stay in contact with him.

I agree. I hope Coach Fickell does not continue this policy. If after you look at a students HS records and believe he will qualify, give him a committable offer. If not, move on to the next guy.

Dodson would have never looked at other schools unless we gave him a reason to do so.

Wad you have been surprised quite a bit lately.

I was banned from Scout for basically questioning months ago, their insiders mantra of "this will have no impact, a flurry of DE verbals is right around the corner, USC put a great class together", blah, blah, blah.

Face it. Uless Urban is named coach around 12/1 this is going to be a very poor class. Urban can flip those already committed, he did it at Fla.

I don't think Million Dollar Gene has the chops though.
Now would be a nice time for him to test his "market value".
Talk about "branding" and mac on Charissa Thompson.

diddy, tell me when you saw him receive an OSU offer and then announce that he was ready to decide the very next day that you didn't think he was going to opt for OSU. Even the model would have predicted that.

This class is not going to be a stellar one. Simply can't be when the staff is handcuffed. They need a couple more OL who aren't projects...especially considering last year's haul. All Fickell can do is grab the kids he thinks are OSU-worthy and truly want to be Buckeyes now and hope that he either gets the permanent title in December.

I don't think Urban is the only one who can salvage this class...he certainly is the biggest name out there but we've seen the momentum a school can pick up with a new hire. The fact is that I think we all feel that the administration has botched this process from start until it ends with either a new coach or Fickell being given the permanent title.

Sounds like Kyle Dodson might be back in play

From twitter:

I'm told Kyle Dodson could be back in play for the #Buckeyes once the NCAA has their say, and if #OSU works for it.

And BK says Dodson has told him he is solid to Wisconsin.
