OL Orlando Pace (7-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, CFB HOF, NFL HOF)

I don't resent John Cooper. I resent the things he says, when he tries to recreate history.

TSUN became the joke that it has been in recent years simply because Jim Tressel owned them. Pure and simple.

It will continue to be a joke because Luke Fickell will continue to own them. A good recruiting class this year. Next year, with stability in the coaching position, Ohio State will close the door on Ohio once again.

Crable, Burgess, Graham, Hall, Arrington, etc. Not branch.

Michigan had top 5 offensive talent and enough defensive talent to protect a top 15-20 ranking, which they had until beanie demoralized them.

They lost to app state because of horrific defense, which was not as bad as the laughable 2000 UM performance against NW.

Michigan was not a joke until RR, which was a desperation hire because Tressel's dominance had turned a top-5 coaching job into a major risk.

I would argue they were very similar to the Michigan that cooper faced.

If cooper was the coach in 06, UM likely has another championship. They matched up well with Florida and would have been much hungrier than the banquet fattened buckeyes.

Tressel derailed their 97 esque season, and I'd argue the 06 team was much more complete.

Cooper is revising history for his benefit by pretending 07 was that bad. It was a lot like Florida, LSU, Texas, who were absolutely elite this decade but had a down year after a nc berth or win.

Michigan was a very good program for the 00s and 90s, excluding RR. They were not a dynasty nor just solid.

Pace?s hunger to excel takes him into Ohio State?s hall
Saturday September 10, 2011
By Tim May
The Columbus Dispatch

Orlando Pace was blessed with the gifts to be an imposing left tackle, growing up to be huge, quick and fast. But that desire to pancake-block, to chase defenders sometimes all the way down the field, to dominate ? that was born just steps from Ohio Stadium in Morrill Tower.

?I remember sitting in my dorm room there my freshman year (1994). I wanted to be special. I wanted to be somebody different, that nobody had seen before,? Pace said. ?I had a lot of hunger, a lot of want.

?And then I remember watching (Ohio State tackle) Korey Stringer my freshman year. There was a kid he was going against in a game, and that kid was talking so much before this one play, and Korey hit him so hard on that play that the kid literally quit.

?I said to myself right there, ?I want to play like that every single play.? I wanted to dominate. I wanted to make left tackle a skill position. I wanted people to say, ?Hey, take a look at him.? And the only way to do that was finish blocks. There was a hunger and desire in me to do something nobody else was doing, to be the best lineman I could be.?

Today during the home game with Toledo, Ohio State will recognize him as one of its greats. He and fellow football players Mike Doss, Leo Raskowski and Bobby Watkins will join Didi Albrecht (rowing), Raj Bhavsar (gymnastics), Mitch Clark (wrestling), Katy Craig (track and field), Jessica Marshall (pistol), Stacey Roth (softball) and Kristen White (golf) as members of the Ohio State athletic hall of fame.

Former Ohio State football coach John Cooper 'embarrassed' by NCAA violations

Former OSU head coach John Cooper, who led the Buckeyes to 100 wins in his 12-year tenure, before a game against Miami (Fla.) on Aug. 29, 1999.

A former Ohio State football coach positioned himself among members of the media during Buckeyes' first-year OSU head coach Luke Fickell's Tuesday press conference and watched.

John Cooper, who led OSU to a 100-34-4 record from 1988-1999, sat quietly during the press conference, but shared pointed comments about Fickell and the program's NCAA violations afterward.

Senior running back Daniel "Boom" Herron's scheduled debut on Saturday against Illinois leaves just one Buckeye ? senior wide receiver DeVier Posey ? suspended from play. The Buckeyes have had 10 players suspended for NCAA violations in 2011, and Cooper said he was troubled by that.

"It's unfortunate," Cooper said. "That doesn't have to happen. It shouldn't happen at Ohio State. This is too good of a school. It is too good of a program to have that happen to us. It's embarrassing, to be honest with you."

Cooper, who now works as a consultant for the Cincinnati Bengals, said that the original "Tattoo-gate" scandal in which six players sold OSU memorabilia in exchange for improper benefits in the form of tattoos, was preventable and tragic.

"Gosh, if (former OSU coach) Jim Tressel could do it all over again, I'm sure he would have walked down and given the information to (athletic director) Gene Smith and the compliance people," Cooper said. "Those (players) would have sat out a few games and life goes on. It's a terrible tragedy."

We all know that John Cooper and Earl Bruce were presented emeritis positions with offices in the WHAC, as ex-coaches of Ohio State. And i
think that Jim Tressel was instrumental for starting all this.

I was just wondering if the above named coaches are still holding those positions in an active manner yet still today. Cooper is a consultant for the Bengals and i have know idea about what Earle Bruce is doing.

If they are, how about Luke Fickell, does he have any contacts with these 2 ex-coaches during the season ? Just asking.

I think you are giving the 90's tsun teams way too much credit.

They lost 3-4 games a year like clock work but salvaged their seasons with wins over big game John. He single handedly made Moeller and Carr look significantly better than they really were. The 95 & 96 teams (that beat all time OSU teams) were middle of the road, at best. 8 and 4 each year with the assist from hot tub Johnny, a good coach at OSU and tsun goes 7-5 two years running while OSU wins a NC and competes for more.

I agree the '06 tsun team was better and there is ZERO doubt in my mind Cooper coaching the 2006 Buckeyes loses that game. Zero doubt. I'd literally bet my life on it.
