OL Reid Fragel (Official Thread)

Not questioning the move, Fragel can definitely swing the change, but surprised they switched him over this late in his career....

Doesn't speak too highly of our current depth at OT, IMO

He's a sophomore and it's not a huge change. There's a reason why some coaches work with both tackles and TEs.

And we do not have depth at OT. This is a fact. Norwell? Maybe. We've got a lot of guards. I'm curious if any other big bodies make the transition as well, especially with the incoming freshman.

He will be a senior. That was ginn421's point. Still like the move.

We don't have any depth at OT. I finally realized this when I looked at the two-deep for the Gator Bowl. Our second team LT and second team RT are listed as our starting LG and starting RG, respectively. Many years of poor OL recruiting is just another reason I'm wishing Jim Bollman well in his new career.

I like the move. It may say as much about TE depth as OT depth. I like what I saw from Heuerman yesterday and we have an unknown (to me at least) in Vannett plus that Stoney guy. There is a downside to having your first two TEs both as seniors come 2013.

Also the late move may be influenced by what Meyer is looking for from his OL in terms of size and mobility.

I will hold off on my OL concerns until after spring ball.

I'm guessing Coach Meyer is also going to be increasing Fragels training table requirements also. Another 20 pounds might do the trick for Reid and not lose much foot speed or athleticism. He's certainly long enough to play Left Tackle but his technique will have to catch up to him.

Hopefully this works out, but it's a shame that so much may be put on Reid due to the ineptitude of the recruiting of this position.

I'm happy that he's happy, but it shouldn't come down to relying on a guy who has been a TE his entire career. This is Ohio State University and it's an elite football program. There should be guys waiting in the wings to take these spots.

It's a shame that due to the laziness that permeated the coaching staff that the team is in the position it's in with respect to the OT position.

The real shame IMO is moving him this late. Should be been done after or maybe even prior to his freshman year. I can't fathom why JT and JB never did this given the lack of tackles, especially athletic tackles, on the roster.
