OL Sam Longo (transfer to Cincinnati, Columbus Destroyers)

Big news...This will be over quick...

Wonder if they are wanting to take both Longo and Watt, or just one of them...

From what I have heard, this has no effect on Watt nor is it the result of where they feel they stand with him. Take it FWIW...

Agreed....word has it that we're prepared to take 5 O-linemen! I like it!

I think this one should be over fast....Sam deserved an offer, and it seemed like only a matter of time before he got one.

Just curious as to what happened to the widely expressed OSU opinion/rumor that if no other OL offer was extended 10 days past Watt's visit then OSU felt really good about their standing with Watt. Conversely if an offer was extended it undersocred their belief that they may not be leading for Mr. Watt's services.

The Longo offer came at the outlier of that ten day window.

In my opinion I tended to subscribe the the 10 day window theory. It made sense and is a normal patter of practice.

Now will OSU take both Longo and Watt (and Hall)? I don't know but I tend to doubt it as with Longo they would be stacked at the interior OL position and in need of space for the few outstanding prospects that they are still in on.

Anyone else see a little Kirk Barton in his game at the same stage?

Yep...and he would fit in at RT just fine....imagine this line....

Hall, Linsley, Mewhort, Watt, Longo

Me (RB)!!!

And that's me wanting to be RB behind this line!

BTW, more confirmation on the offer coming from Rivals$

We believe that Longo was offered right after camp, not just today.

It looks like Ohio State would take both Watt and Longo ... and Hall, of course.

As far as "need[ing] space for the few outstanding prospects that they are still in on" ... Besides Watt and Longo, I don't see Ohio State being "in on" any outstanding prospects at this point, except for Hall and Berry. It looks like those four might be the balance of this class, with room for maybe one more player if the circumstances are right.

Hotmic, are you hearing Berry is out? Numbers crunch has me thinking RB is no longer a priority with Hall and Hyde as commits. OL & DL are the biggest needs.

So I guess this means no more DBs, ATHs, or TEs then. I don't want to mess up Sam's thread, so I'll move on over to Cfb40's recruiting thread from here, but I do have some questions to pose at this point, considering that this offer supposedly doesn't have an effect on the Watt situation.

Huh?? That couldn't be further from the truth. Berry is not out of the equation at all. I would think that it is the end of the road for DBs, ATH & TEs. IMO this offer may be a result of Vlad not being part of this class.

Longo was offered on 6/24 (not sure why it is just now became public), I have no idea what it means in regards to Watt but I have a theory.

Clifford coming back closed the door on another DB.
Longo blew the doors off at camp.
Watt doesn't give a crap about 5 OL.
Andy Miller could swing over to TE.

These events made 5 OL the preferred path.

I do know this OL haul on the heels of Brewster, Adams, and Shugarts is remarkable (with or without Watt, remember Boren is in).
It also makes Josh Jenkins a distant memory.

I wonder if Bill K will reassess his position on where Banks stands . . . .

HotMic, I am a member of a couple different boards, and I am going to be honest with you, I don't remember you bringing a whole lot of info before it was reported elsewhere. However, I have been following this class pretty closely and I am almost positive that you were the first one to be saying that Longo would be offered and that it wouldn't be at the expense of Watt or Hall but at the expense of a different position (Vlad perhaps?). Basically, I'm saying good work. You have been all over this situation from the beginning and it looks like your information has been dead on. In the words of diddy, you have earned bona fide poster status in my book and I'm going to pay even closer attention to your info going forward.
