OL Zach Slagle (R.I.P.)

Good things were written about him in the O-Zone recap of the Big 33 game:

http://www.the-ozone.net/football/2006/Big33/recap.htm

Zach Slagle (OH OL) - Slagle was right next to Browning at right guard. It should be mentioned that most of the long gains on the ground came from the right side. On several occasions, he got through the line and took out a linebacker on numerous quarterback runs. He showed decent mobility and the announcing crew was very impressed with him. Slagle plans to walk on for the Buckeyes this season.

He might be a pretty good lineman. I wish I could find the list of offers he recieved and turned down. IMO, if we can get his weight (325) down to match his height (6'3") more, he could be very good. If anything, he will be one of the hardest working lineman we have. I say this because he will have to pay his way untill he garners a schollie, and that means he will have to bust ass year in and year out to remain on the squad. Not a bad get for the Bucks at all.

Yeah, hes massive. And massive may have worked in high school, but in the Big Ten, massive doesnt cut it. You have to be an athletic lineman, because this is the leauge of rushing the ball. I have a good feeling about this kid. Remember a guy named Nick Mangold? He was only rated a 1star lineman comming into OSU. I thought he did pretty well for himself.

Mangold was ranked a 1-star by Scout, but by Rivals he was a 4-star.

Which says his skill wasnt thought of too highly by the better recruiting service. I know they differ in many of their rankings (ie. AJ Wallace being #1 on Rivals, but only #8 on Scout), but to be labeled as only a 1 star says something. Its not like Scout was just some guy sitting in his basement doing the rankings, lol.
