I can't see a scenerio that places us over PSU in the final polls. They are 11-1. We're 10-2. They beat us. Period. Coulda, shoulda, woulda nothing. There's no place for that in this game. The playoffs start in August. You gotta win and win now. We didn't, they did. Hat's off to them.
Well said. That PSU team that played last night isn't the one that squeezed out a victory against the Buckeyes earlier this year. Penn State was absolutely running on fumes. Derrick Williams was lost for the season in the Michigan game, their 1,000-yard RB Tony Hunt was lost for the game on the first series, Paul Posluszny was gone before the clock hit 0:00 in regulation.

Frankly, I don't have a clue how Michael Robinson kept getting up. Jordan Norwood got rocked frequently too, so it was a bit of a shock to see he could still run in straight lines by the time the third OT rolled around. PSU's All-Americans will probably have their media guide photos taken in a hospital this off season, so to make any comparisons that OSU would beat them 'right now' isn't really fair to what Penn State accomplished this season.

They were a totally different team when Williams was in the line-up, and the loss of Hunt for the bowl was a blow. Their best beat our best on October 8 when both teams were healthy. End of story.

well

My only beef with Ohio State fans is how flippant they were over Poz's injury. I mean, the guy might have blown out his knee and you guys are mocking it like it's a joke. I pulled for OSU really hard against ND because I love the Big-10, but then I jumped over here and half the forum is ripping PSU up and down, going "oooo Poz has a boo-boo" I understand that there's some tension because we beat you this year, but show the class of an elite program and don't revert to VaTech like behavior.

Uhhh...Sorry but I don't think anyone was happy about his injury that is just ridiculous to say so. Don't get confused over what jokes and a little razzing and what actually need s to be taken seriously.

I challenge you to find people here who were happy with his injury. How about you browse the forums before you start saying stupid shit like that. Give me a fucking break.

I saw the one comment he refers to, but it was never followed up with anything, and not a single other person typed anything remotely close to cheering for the injury. People want to think we do that, because they want to think what they want to think about us...whether we do it or not, I guess.

I don't care if it's one of our guys, Poz, or Charles Woodson in 1997...if you are a person that cheers serious injuries to 20 year old kids playing a game on a team other than one you happen to root for, if those are the limits of your life, then there is no hope for you. Those people do NOT reside here.

This Seems Like Joe Didn't Have a Good Time in FLA

Well outside of winning the Orange Bowl for which he and PSU deserve congratulations. Though man it was a painful game to watch at times - and I don't just mean when Poz went down to a knee injury. At the end of the game Joe just looked plain whipped.

Then there is this article, the substantive part of which concerning JoePa's comments on AJ Nicholson, was referred to on a couple of radio spots yesterday. Odd thing is it comes from NE PA, which, if not Penn State country, should at least be relatively friendly territory. LINK

Jerry Kellar

Shame on boorish, arrogant JoePa Jerry Kellar Opinion

<!-- begin body-content -->You know that old saying about absence making the heart grow fonder? That likely won’t apply to the Orange Bowl people, who by now must be sick and tired of putting up with Joe Paterno’s childlike tantrums.
Penn State’s crabby 79-year-old coach has spent the last week alienating and insulting anyone and everyone who dared not kowtow to his whims, further evidence that, while Paterno’s sideline skills might not be withering with time, his social graces most definitely are.
His display of arrogance here will surely overshadow his team’s Bowl Championship Series game with Florida State Tuesday night at Dolphins Stadium.
In the past seven days, Paterno:
... Dressed down a press conference moderator who was simply trying to introduce the coach.
“Let’s go, we don’t need a speech. I gotta get outta here in a half-hour.”
... Blasted Orange Bowl organizers for having events spread out over South Florida, even though he’s received a police escort for every trip.
“Is this the Miami Bowl or the Fort Lauderdale Bowl?” he said. “I don’t know in God’s name why you (media) guys are up here and we’re down there. It took me 30 minutes with a police car to come up here.”
... Complained about being contractually obligated to adhere to the BCS’ hectic schedule. Penn State’s cut for being here, remember, is approximately $15 million.
“I get instructions from the BCS, ‘This is what you gotta do.’ In the old days, I used to work with the Orange Bowl Committee. They’d tell me, ‘This is what you gotta do.’ I’d say, ‘Ah, baloney. Change it around a little bit.’
“I go from here back to my hotel. I go from there to a lunch in Miami Beach. I go from there to a (pep) rally and ... hey, you know, it’s in the contract. You gotta stay where they tell you to stay. We used to pick our own hotel and the whole bit. So I don’t like the whole thing. I love the old way. But I’m a dinosaur.”
Paterno’s tired act was in direct contrast to his friend, Bobby Bowden. The 76-year-old Florida State coach was typically gracious and respectful to everyone during the week, media included. Asked if he had similar complaints regarding the week’s bowl schedule, Bowden said: “We’re just happy to be here.”
Then, there’s the A.J. Nicholson matter.
Paterno, who never shies from weighing in on potentially volatile subjects, nearly crossed the line of appropriate behavior when he was asked about the Seminoles’ linebacker and leading tackler, who was dismissed from the team late last week.
Nicholson, a senior, has been accused, but not charged, with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old female acquaintance at a Hollywood Beach hotel.
“It’s so tough. There are so many people gravitating to these kids,” Paterno said. “(Nicholson) may not even have known what he was getting into. A cute girl knocks on the door, what do you do?
“Geez, thank God they don’t knock on my door. ... But that’s too bad. You hate to see that.”
No, Joe Paterno didn’t mean to condone Nicholson’s alleged actions. I’ve been around him long enough to know that’s not his style. He is, deep down, a good man. But by making light of a highly sensitive issue, as he is wont to do, the coach comes off looking like a boorish old fool.
Problem is, Paterno has become such a powerfully monstrous figure at Penn State, he answers to no one. That’s both dangerous and wrong.
And, if university president Graham Spanier and athletic director Tim Curley aren’t cringing from embarrassment after this Orange Bowl exhibition, they’re just as wrong.

Joe has never liked the press, and they have never liked him...in PA is actually the worst. Some coaches use the press to their advantage (Bowden comes to mind) and others don't...Joe has never liked them.

Example: there is a book called "Tales from College Football's Sidelines" by a former AP writer, Herschel Nissenson, that I eagerly bought when it came out. In what was one of the biggest disappointments of my book-reading life, he managed a 120-page lovefest with the likes of Barry Switzer, Bobby Bowden, and a slew of other coaches who ran questionable programs, but used the press to their personal image advantage. In between that, he found enough time to summarily trash just two coaches: Woody Hayes and Joe Paterno.

From the ESPN blog of Bruce Feldman:
Dadgum kickers! I will steal an old line of mine that I now have probably rehashed five times: Only Charlie Brown has had a worse time trying to kick a football than Bobby Bowden. How many different ways can a guy lose games on field goals? I'm starting to think being a kicker for FSU is the football equivalent to being the drummer for Spinal Tap.

I hope you are not referring to my comment. I truely meant I wish he would not have been injured. He has a promising pro career ahead and I hope this doesn't affect it. By no means was I mocking his injury. :osu:
