What's the significance of backing off of Jones? Are we done for 08 now?
If they are done with them as reported in this thread, I think that they are done for 2008 unless a JUCO would jump out. JMO

OBJ has stated in the past that he thought they were done for 2008 before Jones even came into the picture.

Scout.com: Signing Day Superlatives

Just behind the Bruins sits Ohio State. The Buckeyes continue to pick up talented prospects on the recruiting trail and they?ve had their class of B.J. Mullens, William Buford, Anthony Crater and Walter Offutt wrapped up for quite some time. They fill needs at each position and they have two likely McDonald?s All-Americans in Mullens and Buford.

This class would have been awesome if LB had stayed committed. This really leaves a short at the PF position next year. I guess that's why I still think TM might be looking at the Juco ranks.

Babbit would have been a great pickup (or Jones for that matter), but I think Matta might also be comfortable with a serviceable core of PFs in Madsen, Lauderdale and Wallace (3-4) who should all be able to bang inside and rebound (traditional PF role) and possibly develop a step-out game (esp. Wallace and Madsen) by next year to compliment Mullens inside. If Koufos stays, the team is obviously more than fine with Koufos and Mullens at the 4 and 5.

Also - the team could have an amazing small lineup (not too different from last year's team) to go 4 around 1 with a combination of the three '08s and Diebler, Turner, and Lighty around Mullens. That's still a great college lineup. Not to forget Hill or Wallace who should also see time in '08-9... another PF by '08 still feels alot like icing on the cake.

I think it is wishful thinking that KK might stick around for another year but I do think that he is the typical Euro player and needs to get more physical but I don't think that is going to keep him here for another year.

I guess I agree with your assessment that we can slide Lighty or maybe even Wallace to the 4 position and have Buford, Diebler, Turner/Lighty play the other two positions but that certainly depends on how Hill develops.

I know that many people do not think that TM will look in the Juco ranks for a PF.

I think you're right here - he is already so skilled and has so many moves... getting this kind of talent for one year is still better than never, IMO. Good discussion LitlBuck

IF KK does leave, which I honestly don't know enough to know if he will leave.

What I do know is that Lauderdale will be more than serviceable by next year at the 4 position, with Madsen coming off the bench, and we could also get away with having Mullens, man the middle, being able to allow us to have Wallace, Lighty, Buford slide to the 4 postion and run a 4 guard lineup...

But one thing is why if Jones wasn't going to be waiting extremely long, and the staff wanted to move on...Maybe the staff has the feeling that KK might stay around for another year and they didnt want to crowd the front court...Just wishful thinking probably, but I am just throwing it out there...
