OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

One of the talking points during Ohio State's preseason football camp has been the precipitous slide of sophomore Mike Adams to the third team.

The Dublin Coffman graduate appeared to have the inside track on the starting left tackle job in the spring, then started alternating with former tight end Andrew Miller. Now Miller is competing with J.B. Shugarts for the starting job.

Some self-proclaimed Internet insiders hint that Adams has done something to get in the coaches' doghouse, but the fact that he hasn't been suspended argues against a violation of team rules. Although Adams' supporters say he is at a disadvantage because he missed most of last season because of injury, the same can be said of Shugarts.

So why has Adams dropped? Offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said in the spring that Adams is a "gifted athlete, but he's got to play with toughness and determination (and) old-fashioned fight."

At the time, it seemed that the competition with Miller was designed to bring that out of him. A week before the opener, it seems likely Adams isn't in the mix because he hasn't shown the coaches the fight they want.

I surely hope that Adams gets his head straight, I obviously have absolutely no idea what occurred to get him in his current situation, but he has a great opportunity in front of him, even if he never plays another down of football, he has a chance to get an education from tOSU that will serve him well his entire life. I love the fact that our coaches hold the players to high standards and that JT is more worried about the person than the player ala WWH.

Adams Suspended, Mobley Transferring?
Posted by Dave Biddle on Aug 29, 2009

According to a Bucknuts.com source, Ohio State sophomore offensive lineman Mike Adams has been suspended two games for a repeat violation of a team rule.

This explains Adams? sudden plummet to the third-team offense after it was believed he was the favorite to win the starting left tackle position at the outset of camp.

A little off topic but....

I don't keep up with the OSU beat writers so I may be way off but that smacks of a guy who's a little put out with the way the Internet has reduced the "experts" importance in the world since they are no longer the sole owners of information.

Interested to hear what people who actually follow these guys have to say.

The way I read it is that either he knew something and purposely lead his readers in the opposite direction OR he didn't know anything and is a complete idiot for being an "insider" and still not knowing anything. Either way, I will never take anything I read from Hunter seriously again. He's either the biggest liar or the biggest idiot of the the Buckeye world. The Dispatch just sank a little lower in it's importance in the world of Buckeye news.

Eh, Hunter is not a beat guy. Just seems to be an opinion columnist who also has great ideas about other athletics. I think the beat guys May and Gordon are fine.

Naw,

I think it's just Tress saying (in a politically correct way), "None of your beeswax." to the media.

I'm sure Tress is focussing on Navy and the players that are available for this week's game plan.

He's handling Big Mike's situation 'in house', between player and staff and that's as far as it probably needs to go.

Hopefully this is nothing more than a bump in Mike's road to a great Buckeye career. :osu:
