OU Bashing OSU

Neat little stadium, nice setting, kids brought in gracery bags filled with brewskis and nobody bothered them as long as they behaved, the band was great and nobody was there. It's not like it's empty-out-on-the-weekend school like Kent State or a huge commuter school like UC... you have to WANT to get to Athens and you have to want to get out of Athens... but the kids just never went to the games. The product on the field keeps people out of Peden Stadium. Or stay in the dorm/go to the bar and watch OSU on tv. You also have to realize that people complain about noon kickoffs and having to park FIVE minutes away from the stadium. I am not joking, Piney can confirm.

As I think we've seen elsewhere, this isn't much different at the University of Cincinnati either. I went to Miami University and you will find that the really die-hard fans (those that would frequent message boards) are just as nasty as these folks are too. It is jealousy, nothing more and nothing less.

My guess is a few things make them this way. 1. They grew up with little to know allegiance toward a school. 2. They become extremely bitter while an undergrad when they realize most guys come into school with prior allegiances and don't always full-heartedly support their school. 3. They don't realize that their schools have a history of drought periods (i.e. little to no success), which leave the students and alumni a bit disinterested.

Can I add that we find a lot of really good Buckeyes in Southern Ohio, so let's avoid statements here that might make recruits think that we think Southern Ohio is middle Tennessee or West Virginia!

I think we need to re-name our state universities to follow the model chosen in Illinois and Michigan. To wit: OU becomes "Southern Ohio," Bowling Green becomes "Northern Ohio," Kent becomes "Eastern Ohio," and Miami becomes "Western Ohio." This would provide clear guidance to prospective students as to the locations of these fine institutions, since most applicants to OU-Athens no doubt (mistakenly) believe it to actually be in Greece.

Everyone agree? Good! I'll contact the Ohio Board of Regents immediately!

I think it's funny fans/alumni two schools in the middle of fucking nowhere (OU and Miami) deride OSU and infer its fans/alumni are backward by emphasizing the fact that school has a strong tradition in agricultural sciences. It's not pitchforks and straw hats over there. The stuff they do is cutting edge, and more advanced/prestigious/rigorous than probably at least 90% of the programs at either of those two institutions.

Who's backward now? I doubt any of those ass clowns could complete one year of OSU's ag majors.

I am currently an OU student and am constantly reminded of it while I'm down here sporting my tOSU jerseys and shirts. It's weird too, because I came down here last year looking to cheer on both teams, however, the hardcore fans down here make it real hard when they turn on one of their own. They cannot seem to comprehend the fact that while I may go to OU, I grew up in Columbus and have been a life long buckeye, and that I cheer for both teams, just one a little more-so... :biggrin: :osu:

:cheers:...although there werent really any hardcore fans that I met in 4 years, maybe with Frank down there its changed. I dont think its that hard to figure out, I grew up in Columbus living and dying with the Buckeyes, and winning 2.75 games a year in front of 10,000 disinterested people doesnt get the juices flowing the same way.

Don't get me wrong, I still cheer hard for the Bobcats and want the best for them, but lifelong love of the Buckeyes wins out.

I remember at Miami of Ohio all the sports bars are Ohio State hangouts. MU football fever was pretty much non-existent except for the occasional win over Northwestern or some other 2nd tier big ten team. A couple of days of craziness and then Oxford became a Buckeye town again. Noone other than the players themselves ever said anything to anyone about Buckeye gear and such.

It was the same way at OU, except the occasional win over Buffalo didnt really do anything for anyone. When tOSU beat Purdue in overtime a few years ago was more cheering from my apartment complex than there usually was in the stadium.

The funniest thing is is that last year, OU had a couch burned and claimed it was outrageous and perposterous. How could something like this happen after the OU/Pitt game? However, my friend was there, the couch was burned due to the loss to Texas last year!! We're buckeyes and we're just trying to bring the Columbus flavor to Athens... :biggrin:
