2018 PA OL Fredrick "Juice" Scruggs (Penn St. Verbal)

All the crystal balls are heading to Penn State...

I'm not sure why this kid isn't a take. We seem to do a poor job recruiting depth on the offensive line.
I think that the staff is aiming higher right now, with kids like Williams Barnes, Jamaree Sayler, and Nicholas Petit-Frere (and of course Jackson Carmen).

Also, if the Buckeyes are able to land DTs like Tommy Togiai, Tyreke Smith, and/or Michael Thompson, then current DT commit Matthew Jones can more over to OG (he is rated #3 OG prospect and #57 overall prospect by 247).

I really don't have a problem with the staff "passing" on OL like Scruggs and Verdis Brown. If the staff whiffs on their wish list targets, then they can find someone late in the process to fill a spot (like Thayer Munford from last year's class) and hope to develop him down the road.

Jones is starting out on the OL, which I think is why Scruggs isn't a take currently. He's playing center or guard at OSU, per his HS coach.

Agree with all that you've said. And I could see the staff being fine with passing on Scruggs and going after Carmen and another OT for the class and signing only 1 interior OL. Its easier to move an OT to OG than vice versa, we saw many times that Tressel had a problem with that notion

And you know that you're coaches are recruiting at a high level when you're talking about taking "developmental" guys down the road. and they're former 4star top 300 talents who would crack the two deep for most of the conference

Everything with this staff, players and culture in general is..........."at a high level" and it's taken some getting used to. The bar is literally set as high as possible. You hear it all the time from the assistants - even from vets like GS and KW......."Urban demands the best out of you." That's just how it is.

I mean..........this staff had the most talented recruiting class in last cycle during the modern era by all accounts. And Urban is trying to break the record the following year? That's the reality.
