Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

I think Day can get us to the playoffs in his sleep……

This is a valid point when 2024 comes. As much as i hate it... the game may be irrelevant after next year.
A mere question of seeding.
And Day could be the wrong coach for this system*, but the right coach for the new one.

*Even though we got in this year, it was by luck that 3.5 other teams eliminated themselves. We didn't control our own destiny at the end.

Insert incredulous gif here.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, as I have read little about the new format, but I'm assuming the top 4 teams will get a bye? If so, won't everyone still be fighting to be in the top 4? If the exact same scenario as this year played out a few years down the road wouldn't people still be upset that OSU (or any other team in the same position) that backed into the 4th spot without playing in a conference championship be rewarded for that spot? Hope that makes sense.

Yes, teams ranked 1-4 get an opening round bye.

The long version is all P5 conference game winners receive an automatic invite and the highest ranked non P5 school also receives an auto invite (this ensures at least one non P5 school gets a bid).

Then the highest ranked 6 teams that did not win their conference championships get an invite.

What's actually kind of cool, is the teams ranked 5,6,7,8 will host the first Round games at their home stadium (#5 hosts #12, #6 hosts #11, #7 hosts #10, #8 hosts #9). The following rounds will then be part of the Bowl games. I think getting the bye will be important to most teams, although hosting an additional home game for the playoffs is a nice soft pillow to land on.

So if that was in play this year would OSU have been a 7 seed? Or do they still go by the cfp rankings? I realize this is going off topic. Sorry.

All teams are still subject to the CFP committee's final ranking. So in theory, had Purdue upset Michigan for example (and its year 2024) Michigan likely stays a top 4 seed. Same could be said had LSU upset Georgia.....Georgia would certainly remain inside top 4 and get a bye. LSU would then probably be on the fringe of either hosting a 1st rd game or be an away team as one of "last 4 in". Purdue would get an auto invite and likely play an away game as one of the bottom seeds.

If you go by current CFB rankings, the playoff would've been:

1. Georgia - Bye
2. Michigan - Bye
3. TCU - Bye
4. OSU - Bye
#5 Alabama hosts #12 Tulane (highest ranked non P5 school....keep in mind Tulane actually finished #16 so you'd hear belly-aching from teams 13,14,15 who get bypassed by a non P5)
#6 Tennessee hosts #11 Penn State
#7 Clemson hosts #10 USC
#8 Utah hosts #9 Kansas State

Hope that helps....

Going a round deeper...

OSU would play winner of Bama/Tulane
TCU would play winner of Tennessee/PSU
Michigan would play winner of Clemson/USC
Georgia would play winner of Utah/Kansas State

All these games will be "neutral site" Bowl games.

Yep….I think tOSU has a shot in playoffs but the formula is not what it was in 2014 when we could lean on Zeke and the Power run game. Those 2 years (Carlos Hyde to Zeke) were insane….I think we only had (3) negative running plays in 2 years…lolz.

That said….we have the weapons offensively to win when the conditions are as such. This is Drew Brees and the Saints in a dome. We have no excuses. Need to attack and be aggressive. Not crazy aggressive but definitely trust CJ to drop balls into smaller windows than what they’ve been comfortable with. If he’s a first Rd QB, now is the chance to trust him and let him prove it.

As much as things changed from The Game to now, not much has changed to me in the sense that we have an opportunity to accomplish the penultimate goal of a national title and that road was always going to mean having to beat UGA. That is not a small task for sure, but it is an opportunity to check off the biggest box on the goals list.

I do agree the formula is very different for getting a Natty though, we have to sling the ball early and often. Get aggressive over the middle with the passing game, it is more risky but we are most effective when we do that. When we do run it, I want to see Hayden get most of the carries, he has earned that opportunity and there is just no excuse for not getting him the ball more last game, as I don't think he was injured at all. If Miyan is healthy, he should also get a ton of carries. Henderson we learned has a significant injury and he might be able to play, but if he's not a full 100% just hold him out.

As to weather conditions and the dome, I do think that is an environment that suits us best with no threat of weather conditions effecting the game. Last Saturday was perfect weather in the Shoe but I think we just played like shit. If we play to full potential in a dome, it is a chance for CJ to light it up. If we don't, then this just isn't our year and our offense underperformed.

On defense, obviously UGA can score but I think we are built to slow them down enough to win. We have several guys that can team up to guard their TE and generally we are adept at stopping the run. Bennett is a very good QB and maximizes the talent around him from what I have seen...might want an occasional spy from someone like Ransom or McCallister on 3rd down situations. I am tempted to say we match up well against their offense schematically, but *ichigan runs a similar offense and torched us with lesser players, so I am just hoping we dial it up in the right places and don't get exposed to big plays like last game.

That is an objective take of the upcoming game from my end, but there will be no negativity from me going into this game. UGA is a challenge and one our fans (and players/coaches obviously) should damn well embrace. If we want to recruit at the highest of levels and win every game, that means we want to play a team like UGA to win a title. I understand some lack of optimism based on perceived weaknesses from the last game, but we have an insanely talented team and over a month to prepare, so lets focus on that shall we? Go Bucks!

Same thing I've been saying, you just laid it out there more elequently than I.....lol.

Embrace the challenge and hold nothing back.

Couple things I'd like to tack on with what you're saying!

1. Agreed they're similar to Michigan on offense. I don't think their OL is as good though and I don't think their running concepts are as complex. Unlike Michigan i don't think we'll have to sell out as hard to stop their run.

2. Where they're different is at TE. Two very special players and they're a bad matchup for anyone not named Sonny Styles I think. IMO it's a mistake to play a ton of man in this game because there's not many "men" who can match up with these TEs. Also the advantage of having eyes in the backfield is huge. Not to mention we were gashed running man vs Michigan.

I think McWeasel was a good beta test (which, we, of course, failed) for Stetson Bennett. We should have learned not to overplay and allow a relatively pedestrian QB beat us. It's clear what needs to be fixed and I like that the weasels and dogs are built the same way. It's not like one's an air raid and the other a ground pounder and neither is going to change much at this point. We either man up and shut them down, or we're wasting a chance at being one of the greats.
