Pearl Harbor (NEVER FORGET)

I've been at Hickam for the 50th, 60th, and now 70th anniversaries of the attack. Here's a photo of the ceremony this morning honoring the attack survivors, with quite a few of the remaining survivors in attenance.

Very cool Mili. My late ex-Father in law served in 1941 abroad the destroyer USS McCall (DD-400), which was part of the Carrier Enterprise screen on its way from Wake to Pearl Harbor. The Enterprise Task Force was so close that several planes from the Enterprise arrived during the actual Japanese attack. My FIL served the entire Pacific campaign aboard the McCall, which was awarded 9 Battle Stars for its service in the war, including action at Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, the Aleutians, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and others. Brave men all.

On a side note:

Pearl Harbor survivors group: We will disband

90

About 120 survivors of the Pearl Harbor bombing commemorated the Japanese attack and the thousands who lost their lives that day 70 years ago by observing a moment of silence on Wednesday.
During the ceremony, a group of survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack announced that they would disband at the end of the month. William Muehleib, president of the Pearl Harbors Association, cited age and poor health of the remaining members.
Survivors will be able to attend future commemoration ceremonies on their own. About 3,000 people, including Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and military leaders, attended this year's 70th anniversary event at a site overlooking the sunken USS Arizona and the white memorial that straddles the battleship.

"It was time. Some of the requirements became a burden," Muehleib said after the ceremony. Most of the survivors have realized that at their age, there are other things they'd like to do, he said.
He said the association has 2,700 members but there are an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 Pearl Harbor survivors. Local chapters will function as long as they have members and survivors can gather socially, but they will no longer have a formal, national organization.

Nothing can describe the pain and suffering that occurred at Pearl Harbor that day. The sacrifices made by the men and women who lived and died there are beyond description, which is why a lot of men won't talk about their war experiences. They were too horrific to put into words and people who who have not lived through a war are actually unable to comprehend what it is actually like.

The men and women who have entered our military service are owed such a huge debt for securing our freedom and country is such that it can't be repaid. How can you put a price on dying for us, or losing a limb or suffering through PTSD.

Heroes all at Pearl that day.
Hand Salute!
