Penn State vs Ohio State: Thursday, March 10th @ 9 PM on the BTN

Ohio State vs. Penn State odds, line: 2022 Big Ten Tournament picks, prediction, best bets from proven model

Ohio State handed the Nittany Lions a 76-64 defeat in Happy Valley on Dec. 5, and the Buckeyes pulled out another win – this time a five-point margin – when Penn State came to Columbus on Jan. 16. Now with four straight wins over Penn State and six in the last seven meetings, Ohio State is favored to extend that streak Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

BUCKEYE INJURY ISSUES
Three Buckeyes were hobbled with injuries by the end of the regular season, and at least one of them will miss Ohio State’s first postseason game. Kyle Young will be out after missing nearly the past three full games due to concussion protocol, and Zed Key will be a game-time decision after missing two of the past three games with an ankle sprain. Meechie Johnson Jr. will be available for the Buckeyes despite turning his ankle at the end of the Michigan game, but Young’s absence alone could be troubling for Ohio State.

A year ago at this time, the Ohio State men’s basketball team was coming off a rough end to a promising season. Despite playing well for much of the year, the Buckeyes lost their final four games of the regular season to finish 18-9. Then the Scarlet and Gray went on a run in the Big Ten Tournament.

After losses to Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Illinois in the final two weeks of the year, Ohio State entered the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 5 seed. Yet despite the disappointing end to the regular season, the Buckeyes made it to the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game, beating the No. 1 and No. 4 seed along the way, before losing by two to the second-seeded Fighting Illini in overtime.

Many people, however, forget about that run and how close the Scarlet and Gray came to winning their first championship under head coach Chris Holtmann. Instead, the fact that No. 2 seed Ohio State lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after playing four games in four days and then facing a dangerous No. 15 seed in Oral Roberts five days later is what’s thought of when discussing the 2020-21 Buckeye team.

With the exception of the IUPUI game, every game this season seems to have been a challenge. This will happen when you 1) play with some degree of inconsistency and 2) play up or down to your level of competition; which I think the Buckeyes have this season.

I don't expect to win this tournament, and I'm not sure I really want to play 4 games again - didn't work out so well last year.

But I sure as hell don't want to go out to these Ped State scrubs. Let's get win #20 tonight.

That's how I feel, want to win this one and fine losing tomorrow to Purdue as long as the boys put up a good effort. Get a little more time to rest and get as healthy as you can.
