I do in the fact that albeit very hyped, he was 5th in Heisman and came out as the 25th pick in the 2017 draft. His production was terrible because as somebody else stated TTUN didn’t use him effectively at all on defense. Some people need to take off their Ohio State glasses
Hmm I think you meant “because”, not “albeit.” Peppers was pure hype at scUM, a tweener who played all over and made some plays but never when it mattered.

What's ridiculous about it? You're spouting his Heisman votes, I'll see that and raise you his one (1) college career INT.

One is media driven, one is on the field performance.

You think you ever hear his name if he played at Indiana?

And his 1 career int was completely gift wrapped for him off a tip ball that hung in the air like a punt

Peppers was a poor man's Isaiah Simmons . Simmons played everywhere along the defense like Peppers, but he had better stats overall and better stats in big games. Peppers was an average CFB player who showed up against the Rutgers, Purdue's and Northwesterns of the world. Against the nfl talent loaded Buckeyes and Ped St, he wasnt seen

Yeah but you added a bunch of NFL busts to my post and didn’t read it correctly. I get that he was overhyped, I’ve done nothing but say he was. Still think he was a good player.

Real question....rather have Peppers or Webb in the backfield for Ohio State in 2016? As a fan of course I say Webb. But as an observer, I’ll take Peppers with Coombs coaching any day over Webb at the same time

With all due respect, you’re [recruiting forum self redacted] crazy or high.

With all due respect, I know more about football than at least 50% of people on this board. And while I know I just started posting, I’ve been reading this board daily for the last 12 or so years. So you wouldn’t take Peppers over Damon Webb?
Also what have I said that makes me crazy or high?

No. I’ve seen years of him taking bad angles, over pursuing and generally being completely mediocre to consider him over Webb.

For starters, using subjective criteria over objective criteria to support your point. Second, and perhaps related to the first point, this isn’t a discussion of potential (i.e being misused at tsun), it’s about production. He simply didn’t produce overall and especially when it mattered. A 5* comes to tOSU and produces those stats we’re ALL calling it a bust.

I think, out of high school, Peppers had a higher ceiling than Webb. That's no slight to Webb, of course. I don't think anyone here would challenge the assertion that Peppers was a "take" for Ohio State too at the time. But, scUM appeals to a "type" That "type" tends towards the lazy and entitled types. That's the key ingredient all the "busts" we are discussing on that earlier graphic share. Rahsaan Gary would have been a beast at Ohio State. But, he didn't have it in him to work and instead rested on his laurels in the "Michigan Man" culture. DPJ is yet another example.

So as a Junior you’re saying this is a bust?
27 carries for 167 yds and 3tds
66 tackles 40 solo
1 Int (given to him I know)
21 PR for 310 and a TD
And 10 KR for 260
A bust?
That’s nuts to me, absolutely nuts. If this dude played for Arizona you would think the same

You didn’t see me state that DPJ was a good college player do you? I’m not saying that Gary and Peppers both wouldn’t have performed better at OSU than TTUN. But to say they had failed college careers and not good ones are insane to me. I only stated I think they lived to at least solid careers. The other 6 I did not try to justify

Also as a “type” I don’t like the guy. No hated watching him. I’m sure he also would have went somewhere else if TTUN didn’t hire partridge as a coach. I’d take peppers over Webb 20x over if I could even after college production anyway

someone please post the video clip of JT Barret faking Johnny Heisman out of his jock.

I believe it was Josh Perry who said in candor that if JT jukes you, you are a really bad athlete.

I also believe Urban Meyer said something to the effect that Peppers was what he thought he was coming out of HS, a really good return guy.

Not sure of any of that puts me in the top 50% of internet football knowledge guys but I'll roll with it anyway.

BYW, did Mr Peppers notice he had to go down the line to Damon Webb to find a comp for his family member?

I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. I was just illustrating my point with other examples of the same phenomenon. Being labeled a "bust" doesn't mean "unproductive" It means "didnt live up to the hype" and Peppers might well be the very defintion of over hyped compared to his actual production.

I went to Damon Webb as the other Safety was Malik Hooker. Since when did Urban recruit really good return guys?

The only thing that jumps off the page from those numbers is what he did with the ball on KR and PR... and yes... if that’s all he did as a 5* it’s a bust.
