PF Brayden Bell (official thread)

Man that is too bad. I saw him a couple times around campus and in the rpac a couple times and he was looking like he was getting big.

I was looking for him to have a breakout year in his second year, much like a lot of the guys do in Matta's system.

Maybe there was a falling out or just didnt think that he was going to get the pt he wanted so he wanted to go back home.

Well best of luck to him and hope he has a good college career at Utah St.

Are the transfers of Mayes and now Bell going to hurt our graduation rate - measure that the NCAA uses now? I don't expect (hope I'm wrong) that Oden will be staying long enough to graduate, in addition to Cook possibly.

I believe it will hurt our APR...

Bell transfers

The recent influx of tall talent into the OSU men’s program prompted Brayden Bell to finish his college career elsewhere.

Bell, a 6-foot-9 forward from Salt Lake City who played mop-up minutes in seven games as a freshman last season, will transfer to Utah State, his former high-school coach said yesterday.

"He had no problem with the program. He loved the school. But they have a tremendous recruiting class coming in and he was concerned about playing time," said the coach, Lyndon Johnson. "And he was a little homesick."
Bell did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Junior Matt Terwilliger and junior-college transfer Othello Hunter are expected to share time at power forward next season. Moreover, the Buckeyes recently acquired two other prospects at the position, 7-1 high-school junior Kosta Koufos of Canton and 6-10 Vanderbilt transfer Kyle Madsen of Dublin Coffman. Each will be eligible beginning with the 2007-08 season.

Bell was among the first three recruits signed by coach Thad Matta after he was hired by Ohio State in 2004. Another, guard Sylvester Mayes, also left the team in the past month. Their departures leave the roster with nine scholarship players for next season.

It is good there is nothing negative being said about the program. The young man wants to play and here it seems like he will not be getting to do that all that much. Best of luck to him, and thank you for yoour contributions.
