PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Congrats to the young man. While Jared is athletic, he is not a jumping jack, what he does best and excels at is catching everything that comes near him and he also has excellent feet. He also has something you can't teach, a desire to get the ball and the thought that every loose ball and rebound belongs to him. These are the things that will translate well to the next level.

Awesome news, he'll look great in S&G.

He's turned into quite the jumping jack in my opinion.

sully may not be a "jumping jack," but he gets off the ground very quickly, especially for a player of his size. i think it was against findlay prep that i saw perhaps his most athletic move. he drove to the bucket from the right baseline. against a couple defenders, sully attempted a lay-up off the backboard. the shot was a little strong. by the time that the ball bounced off the front of the rim, sully was already back up for a left-handed tip on the opposite side. the defenders, likely jumping jacks themselves, were flat-footed.

Jared is a MAN on the court. He's really come a long way from when I saw him play while I was in HS (08 grad). That is in no way a dis. He used to be a wide body with above average post moves but now he is everything. He can score from outside, he can bang on the boards, he can obviously score on the block, and he has room to grow his game. This kid is going to be a star here at OSU. Can't wait. :oh:

it really is scary (for the rest of the conference, that is) that sully can literally do everything. for example, although diebler will be the designated free throw shooter for technicals, sully could step right in. he's proven to be clutch countless times. also, sully is a press-buster. when you can bring up your big to counter pressure, the press becomes hamstrung. we saw that when matta brought up oden to face tennessee's suffocating full court press a few seasons ago. of course, oden didn't dribble, but he nonetheless nullified the press's effect.

what i also like is that sully will be able to complement lauderdale. sully can be as much a power forward as he can be a center. heck, though he won't be able to defense a 3, sully has some of the game of a 3. i really like that sully and lauderdale's minutes won't be exclusive of each other.

depending on who returns, matta will be salivating at the thought of all the personnel combinations. sully creates much of that flexibility.

Boys basketball: Northland's Jared Sullinger and his dad, 'Satch,' are named America's top high-school player and coach

Coach James "Satch" Sullinger and his son Jared Sullinger are both Naismith award winners.

In 18 short years, the list of Jared Sullinger's basketball accomplishments might reach as high as his 6-foot-9 frame.

And while his latest prize - being honored as the national high-school player of the year by winning the James A. Naismith Award - brought a twinkle to Sullinger's eye, it wasn't long before the Northland High School senior returned to solid ground.

"I view this as a team honor. My teammates should be as proud of this as me," Sullinger said yesterday after hearing he had won the award given by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

"I wouldn't have gotten this award without my teammates feeding me the ball and without us winning all these games. We make each other look good. That's the beauty of a team sport."

Not saying that Sully is not athletic, just that he'll never be mistaken for Dwight Howard or other freakish high risers when it comes to hops. I agree completely with others though, his versatility when it comes to free throw shooting, ball handling, passing, with a nice shooting touch to boot, while still knowing that he is at his best with his back to the basket, playing solid position defense and rebounding are what makes him the player of the year, and potentially the best big man at tOSU in years, including 3 first round draft picks.

Some players are limited by their athletic abilty and others are limited by their weaknesses in various aspects of the game. Sullinger is not limited by either, as he has worked (obviously) on his game skills but also worked very hard on his conditioning and athletecism.
