PG Anthony Crater (transfer to South Florida & Georgetown College)

Sounds like someone thought they were entitled to something that they in fact had to earn.
Kudos to Matta for not giving in to the outside influences.
See ya later Anthony. I hope you succeed elsewhere, but just remember that you quit on your team...

I wonder if Fordham has thought this whole thing through. He mentions the NBA...

Crater will sit out a full year, and likely be ready to play for his new team in January 2010. He will have missed the 2nd half of this season, and the first half of next season. He will surely stay for an additional season at his new school to prove his NBA worthiness, making him an early-entrant in the 2011 NBA draft. The same draft that he could have entered after his junior season at OSU with 3 years of experience, rather than 2 elsewhere.

Also, when he gets to the NBA, the experience in running 30 half court sets just might come in handy.

Its sad what a business college basketball has become, and this is an excellent example of this. Fordham isn't looking out for Anthony's interests here, he is looking out for his future payday if Anthony gets to the NBA. And if he doesn't, Fordham will just find some other prospect to latch on to, and leave Anthony in a pile on the side of the road.

All that sad, I wish Anthony the best of luck.

Isn't Crater from Flint ? Flint is the lowest of the low in Southeast Michigan by many people's claims. I have no doubt that the pressure on this kid to start earning a paycheck to support his family and God knows how many other clingers-on is immense.

Good luck, Anthony. Better luck, Buckeyes.

and the season beings to unravel...........
Little rash, no?

The sense of entitlement that comes with some of these kids is amazing. In this case, it appears it was more his family and "mentor" than Noopy. Like was said, the NBA and AAU crap is ruining college basketball. I always root for the Bucks, but I have little interest what goes on outside of C-bus during the season because of that crap. It's gone from a team game and one of my favorite sports to what often amounts to a 5 month audition for the NBA.

I think that even if Matta explicitly said that "I guarantee you a starting position," it is obviously implied that you have to earn it. Apparently, Anthony did not earn it in practice or Matta would have had him starting. I definitely think this is a blow to the program, but not one that tOSU can't recover from. My biggest concern is whether this is the right decision for Anthony. I hate it when you get these so called "mentors" feeding garbage into these kids ears. All you have to do is look back to Maurice Clarett and the wonderful advice he was receiving from Jim Brown to see an extreme example of how things like this go very bad. I wish Anthony the best of luck wherever he decides to play.

Best of luck to Anthony wherever he ends up. I'm sorry to see it end like this and certainly wish him the best.

But if this actually does happen, that will be 2 players in a row from Michigan that have left during their freshman campaigns. The other was from Detroit but I can't remember his name....about 5 years ago.

I think you're speaking of Jaquan Hart (former Michigan Player of the Year too). And he was homesick.

Ricardo Billings was another MI guy who left.

I was looking for this thread and just found it. I thought these guys were bonding before the season. This really hurts our depth. I wish you well Snoopy but I hope you don't listen to your high school coach your entire life or it might be a long one.
