I'd like to start this thread to help fellow bper's put the rbookie (real bookie) in the red. There is a wealth of college football knowledge on BP and I'm hoping that we can use this thread to throw out suggestions of what games people are going to be betting this weekend. I know we have the threads in the vbook, but I want to see who people are putting their real money on this weekend.

My Play of the Day-Arizona State (-11). Colorado's offense is absolutely horrible, gaining less than 150 yards last week against CSU. Their rush defense is good only allowing 65 yards combined in the past two games, but the pass defense is suspect. Carpenter is playing with confindence throwing for over 300 yards against Nevada last week.

Other sure plays:
Pittsburgh
Boise St.
Miami (fl)
Fresno St.

Possible plays:
UConn
Rutgers
Ball St.

Any thoughts?

I feel confident in the first 5; I just threw out the others which were on my intitial radar to try to spark some discussion. I usually only play 4-5 games per week. For instance, last week I played 4: Va Tech, Auburn, Miami (OH) and Georgia. Va Tech was my play of the day.

You are taking Pitt over MSU?? I dont know if that a sure thing. I would put my money on MSU. Also I would take Louisville over Miami. So basically I dont agree with your picks at all, just my opinion.

Constructive criticism...I can take it. As for Pitt, here's my thinking. Pitt's run defense is very strong and both Ringer and Caulcrick have health issues. I think Revis will be able to contain Trannon (this isn't eastern michigan). Plus, as lame as the environment for Pitt games is at Heinz Field, the Panthers are 9-2 ATS in the past three years there, while not being a very good team. Might have something to do with how shitty the turf is and opposing teams not being ready for it, but that's just a guess. Also Pitt has played much better competition so far than MSU and looked much better doing it. MSU only beat Idaho by 10 and was only up on EMU by 4 late in the 3rd before pulling away. I don't think Pitt will be able to run the ball effectively either, as they haven't yet this year, but I think Palko will be able to put some numbers up through the air. Basically I'm counting on Pitt's defense to be able to stop MSU more than the MSU defense can stop Pitt.

As for the Miami/Louisville game. It comes down to the fact that I don't think Louisville is ready to step up to the big time in these kinds of games yet without Bush. If Bush was playing in this game, I'd probably lay off of it. Louisville has faced two very bad teams in Kentucky and Temple and Kentucky scored 28 on them. I'd like to think that Miami's offense is as good as Kentucky's. I know that their defense is much better. The game last year in Miami was close, but I think Louisville shocked them in the first half (up 24-7) before Miami came back and won. This year, I don't think they'll get shocked early.

You are right though, there are no sure things. I do like your picks, just hate laying the big numbers and those rivalry games scare me.

You mentioned the turf playing a factor in the Pitt game, well MSU plays on turf so that should not be an issue. Pitt only has one running back, who is a true freshman, Howling is still questionable for the game. I agree its going to come down to who scores last but I just dont see MSU losing this game.

Louisville giving up 28 to a piss poor Kentucky team can be explained. Kentucky ALWAYS plays them well. It is a huge rivalry game and the players go all out. It is going to be a close game but I just feel that Louisville is not going to let Miami get away with a win this year.

Sorry, when I said turf...I meant the horrible sand field that they call a football field. Heinz Field's playing surface is the furthest thing from turf. I was at a Steeler's game a couple of years ago when they actually brought out a roller that they use on highways to smooth the field. It's an embarassment to the Steeler's franchise.

I'm telling you guys that you should really take a hard look at Mizzou, if for no other reason(which there are many) than New Mexico sucks....badly

this year they are 0-2, with losses to portland state and New Mexico ST...the same NMS team that carried a 13 game losing streak into the contest, final score in both 17-6 and 34-28 respectively.

On the other hand you have a Mizzou team that is rolling led by their Soph. QB Chase Daniel. He has been running this offense since he was in Middle School as it is identical to the one that South Lake Carrol runs. In case you don't know who that is they are the #1 team in the Nation and have been for some time now. This one will not be close...much the same as Texas Rice

New Mexico beat New Mexico State, but didn't cover. (NMS was my underdog play in BP contest last week, but I didn't bet em). Regardless, your point is well taken. NMU sucks. NMS passed for 472 yards, but turned it over 5 times and still only lost by 6. I really don't know much about Missouri, but that's why I put up this thread. I'll take a look into that game.
