Here's the July 2021 Poll regarding Big Ten expansion. I have included the following schools, all of whom are AAU members: 9 Pac-12 schools; 5 ACC schools; 2 Big XII leftovers; and 2 SEC schools who don't really fit the SEC profile.

I have also included Notre Dame because they are strong academically even though they aren't AAU, and more so because they have a huge brand that could sell internationally.

For the die hards who want to keep the conference regional, I have also included Cincinnati and West Virginia.

I would suggest adding highest populated states without a current B1G team. It's too bad New York University (an AAU school with > 50K students) doesn't have a football team. I'll say add 6 teams, giving the B1G 20 schools and go with 4 pods of 5 each. Here are 2 options.

Option 1: UVa, UNC, ND, Georgia Tech, Colorado, and Missouri. Hey, I have always thought that Missouri was a better fit for the B1G than the SEC. They are more of a midwestern state than a southern state, decent population, and recently Ohio State has recruited pretty well there too.

Option 2: Washington, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, and Arizona.

I think it is hilarious that nobody has select Duke……
Duke is Scum South…..

Raising my hand. I included them in my votes. Academics, lacrosse and basketball — in my order of importance to get to 24. I was at 20 with UVA and UNC in my 20-count… Duke made my selection only to get to numbers. It doesn’t get us any TV market as we’d have it covered with UNC… but it does get us to 24 and boosts both LAX and bouncy ball.

The addition of UVA, UNC and Duke to B1G LAX would be colossally good. And while I hate to think that B1G (and college) football may someday be non-existent, I don’t think that it’s out of the question. Aside from ‘Cuse, Denver and the Domers… you’d be hard pressed to find a LAX program outside of that B1G conference what would be worth a damn on a consistent basis. Notable exception would be the periodic Ivy that comes to play in a given year.

3-pods of 8:
B1G East
Duke
UNC
UVA
UMD
Rutgers
State Penn
tOSU
tsun

B1G Great Lakes
Sparty
Indiana
Purdue
Illinois
Northwestern
Wisky
Minnesota
Iowa

B1G Flyover Westward Expansion
Nebraska
Colorado
Cal
UCLA
USC
Oregon
Washington
Stanford

Do this and we appease those who care about eye-balls, academics, football, lacrosse, bouncy ball… This would be a win all the way around.

I went full Death Star based on markets football brands and academics. 4 Cali + Duck + Dawg. If you want to balance the divisions out at seven apiece, add Buffalo.

Fuck the remainders. Purdue? You were at the right place at the right time a hundred years ago; step up and collect your check. Oregon State? So sorry, you were not at the right place and the right time. You fail. You get nothing. Good day, sir!

Clemson, ND, and FSU have to be happy in the ACC - they don't give a shit about basketball and the rest of the conference doesn't give a shit about football. It's an easy route to the playoffs.

The only team that would a) make economic sense b) improve the quality of football is Notre Dame. Much as I'd like to see us play USC when they're on probation, it's a logistics issue, even in football and certainly in any non-revenue sports.

Absolute no brainer play to me is to get the four Cali schools, Oregon, and maybe Washington to lock up the west coast. If you want to go to 24 down the road when GOR’s are up then grab UNC, Virginia, Duke, and Colorado.

3 hour time delay - night games that start at 11pm EST - into an area where college football is in direct competition with 15 professional teams including 4.5 NFL teams, all in the same cities as 5 of the schools you want - for schools with spotty crowd appeal - for road trips that will require hotels - for piss poor media coverage from east-based media outlets- no thanks.

There is exactly 1 team that would be worth adding to the Big Ten and they're like Texas - they want to call all the shots, half the money, their own outlets, and guarantees to any championships, Notre Dame.
