The concensus among the polls right now is we're a pre-spring #5 team behind USC, Tennessee, Texas and Iowa.
That's the average from National Champions, ESPN, CBS and College Football News. If we're "lucky" and Iowa and Texas stay above us in the polls we could be #1 in the country if we beat them both... considering USC's weak schedule to that point.

Please post links for each to support your claim. I believe you, I just think it will make the thread better if you edit your post to include those polls so we have proof to show others.

I don't see the pollsters moving us ahead of USC, regardless of conference strength, unless they lose or struggle mightily.
I agree....But we don't need to be #1. I get excited just thinking about it...Ohio State vs. USC in The Rose Bowl.... the way it should be. Oh and it just would happen to be for the National Championship too. If I have to walk from Columbus to Pasadena... I WILL BE THERE ! It simply doesn't get better than that.

I think next year's pac10 schedule might surprise everyone more than we think. Cal won't be as tough, but they have some average games that could be tough considering the target on USC's back.

Yes USC is the media darling, but for once the team really deserves it. They have been fairly impressive and return virtually everyone from their roster. While I wish our schedule would warrant a #1 over their poor one, I'd rather head into the bowl game as yet another underdog.

What does Tennessee have that makes them so special? I doubt they win the SEC. LSU will beat them, and I'll put money on that one.

Also think if OSU beats Iowa/Texas in that short amount of time we could jump USC for a week.

I highly doubt it...if USC keeps winning, they stay #1. You don't win 22 games in a row and then get leap-frogged by someone else unless USC is just squeaking by the likes of Hawaii, Arkansas, Oregon and Arizona State...and even then I would be surprised to see them drop until they lose. Plus, while our strength of schedule through October is tougher, USC's is no cakewalk. Playing Arizona, with a new staff, in between Arizona State and Notre Dame has trap written all over it.

I susbcribed to nationalchampions.net where they gave the rankings for each service. I averaged it out myself. When I have time I'll transcribe it for people who don't subscribe unless someone can tell me how to cut and paste it.

Oh, didn't realize what nationl champions was. No don't copy in paste, we're not supposed to do that with premium content. Thanks for letting us know what our average ranking is tho. That's pretty sweet.

Here it is with the average of four polls:

1) USC (1.0)
2) Tennessee (3.25) NC 4, ESPN 4, CBS 3, CFN 2
3) Texas (3.5) NC 2, ESPN 2, CBS 4, CFN 6
4) Iowa (5.25) NC 11, ESPN 5, CBS 2, CFN 3
5) OSU (6.0) NC 7, ESPN 7, CBS 6, CFN 4

Also notable:

8) Michigan (7.75) NC 6, ESPN 3, CBS 9, CFN 13
19) Purdue (20.0) NC 19, ESPN NR=30, CBS 17, CFN 14

Bear in mind that the ESPN poll is from columinist Pat Forde and CBS sportsline is from Dennis Dodd. The other numbers are from NationalChamps and College Football News. It's still nice to get some props.
