Prediction for 2006 Captains (Merged)

I know that you guys are going to disagree with me, but I think it would fitting if Tressel gave some sort of role to Zwick. I love the guy to death, and although Troy is a much better QB, I wish the best for Zwick because he is truly a class act. Just a thought...

Sorry to tell you, but Tressel has a rule, only seniors can be captains.

If that's true, then the guys the players can vote for is very limited, seeing as though I think it very unlikely they will vote a non-starter as a captain.

Offense (pick two):
T.Smith (a shoe-in)
White Jr.
Downing
Datish

Defense (pick two):
Richardson
Patterson
Pitcock
D'Andrea?
Kerr?
Mitchell?
A.Smith?

I want to say this in the most un-biased way(Since he is a Beechcroft Alum). Antonio Smith is a 5th year Senior. He has worked he's way up and now has a athletic scholarship. And at this point, he is slated to start. I think there is a good chance that he will become a captain.

Also it seems, that every year the way the selection goes is...

2 Guys on offense, 2 guys from defense.

Usually 1 guy(WR, QB, RB...) is choosen, and 1 offensive lineman.

Usually 1 DB, with the other being a LB or defensive lineman.

This is the way it seems to be, with the exception of Nugent in 2004.

I actually agree with this and was thinking about it before I saw your post. Zwick has been a leader on this team since day 1 and it would be pretty unique and special to see him as captain given the situation.

I totally agree with everything that has been said about Zwick's character and with the statement that he deserves to be captain. However, I'm wondering if having two QBs as captains might undercut TS's authority as the team leader.

For what it's worth, I was at the baseball game last week against EMU, and while I was there I picked up a pocket schedule for next year's football season. On the front were TS and Pitcock. I'd say that at least partially furthers the contention of many that those two would be included in this year's captains.

Offense: Troy Smith & TJ Downing
Defense: Quinn Pitcock & Jay Richardson

Also, let me be the first to say that Zwick as captain would be a horrible idea. I'm sure that all the kind things that people have to say about him are true, but this is the first time since Craig Krenzel left that the Buckeyes have had unquestioned leadership at the QB position to start the season. Making Zwick a captain would undercut that.

I'll go with Smith and Datish. I can't see a non-senior getting picked over either of those two on offense, even if Tressel doesn't have that rule. I don't know enough of Datish vs. Downing. But I don't see both of them getting picked over Smith.

Is there a chance that two defensive linemen get picked? Maybe it isn't the goal of the team, but they seem to typically split the captains among different positions. (I know, I know - Doss and Nickey were both captains. You win.) I'd guess that only one defensive lineman gets picked. I'd guess Pittcock. And I'd also guess D'Andrea will get picked.

Prediction for 2006 Captains

Who do you think should be the captains for the 2006 football team?

I would think that Troy Smith would be a lock for one. In addition to him I'll go with Doug Datish, Quinn Pitcock, and David Patterson.
